Tow bar electrics 7 to 13 pin

Good Evening All,

Just wondering if anyone has knowledge of converting a tow bar with 7pin electrics to a 13pin socket.

I know you can use an adaptor but then you lose some trailer power functionality. I was looking at buying a new wiring harness but wasn't sure if it would be that simple.

We have an Opus all road trailer which we use for camping, the T6 Kombi is planned to be for transporting the kids and all our gear.

Eventually I want to upgrade van to including so more off grid capability for Camper Calling Festival

Thanks in advance 😉

Missing from a 7 pin that you would have in a 13 pin are:

- Reverse
- Permanent 12v (and accompanying earth)
- Ignition 12v (and accompanying earth)

Reverse you need a loom for (or splice if you are feeling dirty) although some 7 pin modules come with the reverse prep in them.

Permanent and switched 12v can be done yourself with some properly sized cable, relays, fuses and time.

Replacement sockets can be purchased in many places so would just mean taking the 7 wires out of your current one and putting them in the new one. If you don’t want any of the additional functions you can stop at this point and everything will work fine.

Depends on your skills and inclination :)

Great information, thanks.

Changing the socket over and connecting I can manage. Getting under to pull new cables through is the faf... I guess I need to check the current loom a little closer.

I presume the reverse is coded in so! It disables the reverse sensors?

If your van has tow bar prep (there is a code on the manufacturers build sticker) then all the wiring is done at the rear of the van only. From memory I think the code is 07
