Thin LED wiring???

Hi everyone!

Quick question! I'm hard wiring some 12v LED spotlights into my van and I've noticed the wire is really thin. Like... Really thin!

Is there any danger In connecting/splicing it to a slightly thicker gauge wire? Will i set my van on fire is the main thing! Haha!

I'll be honest, I can't see it being a massive drama, especially if there's a fuse in there. But then again, I'm not an auto electrician so...

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

If these cables were supplied with the lights and the lights have CE Mark’s then leave them as is.

Introducing additional connections isn’t always a good thing to do

Agree with Murdoch. Good quality LED light should draw very little current always look for CE marking not to be confused with <E marking which means Chinese export

What is the reason for the joint? If it is just to get supply TO the LED wiring then no issue, however if you are adding wiring OFF the LED wires for something else then unless you know the total current draw is below the capabilities of the thinner gauge wire then I would say not to do it.
I have used 16x0.2mm wire https://cpc.farnell.com/concordia-t.../equipment-wire-16-0-20mm-red-100m/dp/CB19895 throughout my van for LED lighting circuits and there is no issue with the wiring not being up to it, fused at 2A feeding 4 LED footwell lights 6.74£ 46% OFF|2pcs Error Free 18SMD LED Courtesy Glove Box Under Door Foot Light for Audi Skoda Fabia Octavia VW Golf4/5/6 Tiguan Touareg|glove box light|led foot lightfoot light led - AliExpress the current draw is 0.92A
