So after months of searching I finally managed to find a van in the right spec and colour. I’ve just picked up a lovely 150 highline T6 kombi and the plan is a very slow camper conversion.

Spec wise I’m pretty happy being twin captain seats and a comfort dash from the factory so it’s just getting the jiggles any new car brings sorted at the moment.

So far I’ve just been sorting a few niggles, fitted some properly load rated tyres and a new battery as well as taking delivery of some eibach lowering springs and dummy rear windows from camperglass.

Conversion wise I’m still in the painful decision making stage but leaning towards getting it booked in for a van max pop top to kick things off while I decide on electrics etc. any help or advise along the way would be great fully recieved .

Well I finally got round to sorting some more bits on the van, the spares were starting to mount up.

so today I fitted some 60mm eibach lowering springs, new front shocks and rear discs and pads.

I think the van sits way better now and it drives well, I just can’t decide if I need to ditch the side bars.

Next on the list are some dummy rear windows and then i need to start sound deadening and insulation on the old girl.

Some managed to grab a couple of hours after work this evening and fit the rear quarter windows and give the van a needed wash.

Now I just need to be patient and give it time to cure but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised it was a super easy job and it transforms the van.

So today the sound deadening arrived from dodo

I made a start on one of the rear quarters, it certainly not the most exciting job in the world and any tips or hints would be greatly appreciated. Progress so far is below.

That’s sadly as far as I got. I only did the top half of the arch as I’m going to whip the mat out to do the bottom half so it runs now to the floor. Needless to say I’m not hugely excited to do the rest but it will be nice to have a quieter warmer van at the end of it.

This is really good Led. Progress is progress. Looking forward to further updates on this.

I'm hopefully gonna be receipting and Indium grey T30 SWB 148ps panel van this week (my profile pic) and obviously you will be my guide on my build I reckon hehe

Thanks mate, that looks like a great van. I was after a panel van ideally but it took an age to find what I wanted and when this came up it ticked all the boxes so I paid the extra for the kombi and will sell the seats when the bed goes in

Well as an update I’m still plugging along with the insulation and sound deadening, got the other rear quarter done and the boot. Im not sure if im going to do the roof as the plan is to fit a pop top so its really only the sliding doors i have left to do after that.

I tried to cover as many surfaces as i could inside the void which was probably unnesecary but given how much of the panel was innacessable i figured it was worth while covering what i could get too.

But it’s a pretty slow dull process, especially to get good coverage with the sound deadening. i need to finished the arches properly as well but will likely do them when the floor comes out so i can get right down.

I’ve also made a start on sorting out the split charge. I picked up a ctek charger and loom the other day so I’m just trying to decide on a battery and fuse board setup.

I may be talking put of my rear end (it's been known) and I'm happy to be corrected, but with sound deadening, is it strictly necessary to cover the whole of each panel? I thought the idea was to prevent resonant vibration and that this could be achieved by applying the deadening just to the centre portion of each panel?

i think you only need about 80% of the panel, i however ordered two boxes of 50 sheets so have an awful lot and figured i may as well cover the accessible bits. in reality if it has any swage lines etc its unlikely to reverberate much. The arches need full coverage as im carpeting over the top of them so thats really the most frustrating part.

Well I’ve been cracking on with this a little more and managed to get the sliding doors done, the difference in sound is massive, I did however notice they are a little harder to close has anyone put pathways in for the slam vents?

I drilled our rear quarter panels in the same way the factory harboard is and then carpetted over them to act as a kind of hidden slam vent ....it didnt really help

Yeah mine have the holes in still but almost no path too it, I’ll have to see if anyone has a good solution

I put a circular vent cover in my rear quarter, which doubles as fuse box access. Not quite enough vent for the tailgate to slam without bouncing though. I bring it down to almost closed, then shut it. Sliding door had electric latching, and closes OK.
