Well the EGR valve finally gave up at 85,000 miles. Still ran but constant P0401 and P046C codes & engine management light plus I was starting to lose coolant so there must be a crack inside. Just really surprised how much soot is inside these and I use premium diesel 95% of the time!
That's not bad going mileage wise. Premium diseasel might help to keep clean surfaces that come into contact with the liquid fuel but will do nothing as regards carbon, a simple by product of combustion mixed in with unburned fuel.
