The definitive remapped/deleted thread.

Technically it's illegal, but it's not unsafe like bald tyres for example (which are both illegal and unsafe!)

Choose your poison!!
I'm not going to preach - go with your conscience on this one, do it if you feel the need to do so.

But it isn't unsafe. Once you've unsuccessfully given CPR to a young teenage girl who died from a massive asthma attack brought on by traffic pollution you'll see first hand how unsafe it is.

EGR's, PITA that they can be, are exteremely good at reducting the very NOx emissions that cause this sort of reaction in the young - don't be kidding yourself its unsafe or without consequnce.

EGR delete and remap at 29,654 miles in August 2021.
Van now on 38,900 miles, no issues, passed 3 MOT's since.
Did it because it cost £250 and a new EGR would have been over a £1000 and would have needed replacing again eventually. Also not happy about all the soot and sh1t being pumped back through the engine, it can't be doing it any good.
Hi, did you blank your EGR as well as having it deleted from ECU?

I've never been 100% sure if my van has had any emission stuff mapped out. I'd already guessed that the Adblue had been deleted as the dash just displays - - - for the Adblue range

Download VAG DPF lite and this is what its telling me about my DPF and its regen status

I'm guessing thats also been mapped out, no idea if the DPF has been gutted or removed tho

I went down the Digital Tuning Unit route, 204ps to 240ps with a plug and play unit from DTUK Diesel Tuning Boxes | Petrol Tuning Chips | DTUK Performance . I've used them before on other cars with good results. Feels a bit more responsive, easily removed if needed, saw around 3mpg increase in range (33 to 36). Covered 8k miles since fitting. It has 3 set programmes, Efficiency, Dynamic and Sport. I use the Dynamic setting as it seems to work best for me. All else is as standard on a DMZA Engine.

Have you had any MOTs since you have owned it?

Certainly looks as if it's mapped out from that

I believe you can either blank it off or leave it alone if it’s closed shut.
I’ve had the EGR mapped out for over 5 years in my T5.1. It’s still in place and just closed not blanked off. It runs great. I’ve never had any problems from it since and it’s passed many mots

Hi, did you also have the dpf removed and mapped out? I recently had the egr replaced on my 2015 T5.1 (with a replica part) and it’s still showing issues, eml permanently on again now (insufficient flow warning) so considering my options. Local garage has suggested egr blank & delete plus dpf removal and then a remap. They’re suggesting the dpf will likely default once the egr is deleted? I’m nervous about dpf removal! Do the two have to go hand in hand?
Thanks

My T5.1 is a 2010 and has no DPF.
The EGR failed 3 times in it before I decided to get it mapped out.
When my T6 started getting EGR and DPF problems I never hesitated. Got them both mapped out. The EGR was left in place but kept closed. The DPF needs the internals removed carefully so it doesn’t look tampered with.
Then I got it custom mapped on a dyno from 102bhp up to 160bhp and the difference is incredible.
I was £450 for the custom map and £200 for the work on the DPF.
It passes mots fine.

Its well known that the DVSA have been looking at more effective ways of DPF testing sicce last year as the current visual checknks clearly pointless.

A lot of people are going to be left holding their sclongs when the next big test update is eventually rolled out, around 2028-29 if the frequency of previous changes are anything to go by.

Thanks for the insight, had a good chat with Chris at Dav-Tec today as well. Might take a punt on deleting / mapping out egr but leave dpf in.

Heard today from a friend of mine still in the dibble who is a vehicle examiner and often works with DVSA that PN tests will likely be part of the revised MOT for 2027 or 2028. The rumours have been out there a while but this is the first time I've heard it from a credible source.

That'll be the DPF delete crew failing and given a prohibition notice and/or fine, depending on who gets informed once the MOT man hits the enter key.

Sounds like a lot of speculation, rumour and a sprinkling of wishful thinking.

To get it going:
So who has done what?
How's the reliability and performance?
How's the fuel economy changed?
How many miles since the mods?
Why did you do it?
Would you do it again?

Thought I'd give this a 2026 bump for those out there that haven't seen it.

Also bonus points for photos of deleted DPFs.

Would also like to see some pictures of any oil catch can intalls out there.

During recent trials 5% of vehicles failed the PN test.
Some European countries use PN testing already.
The trials here also looked at test machines from different manufacturers to gain understanding - something you’d only bother doing if you were at least partly serious.

Healthcare costs us a lot in both the care itself and in a less able workforce.
With a Government hat on it should seem clear that brining in extra income in fines (albeit relatively tiny) while (slowly) making changes that reduce a known healthcare burden, is a win win.
Testers will have to buy the kit and punters will pay for that over time with the test fee - so roll out costs to Government are negligible.
