Hi all
I’m after some advise so I have a 2017 2.0 Bi-tdi 204 DSG and it’s been coming up for a while with DPF and soot faults so decided to take off the DPF and get it tested and cleaned. They have unfortunately today came back to me with they suspect it’s internally cracked and would advise replacing. I’ve had a brief look at DPF and not happy about purchasing a new one so I’m after some advise I was debating on chiseling out my old DPF and remapping this out is this an option will I also need to remap and chisel out the CAT aswell. And if I’m going through all this is it worth deleting the EGR at the same time. If I do this how hard have people had it getting an MOT and also has anyone any recommendations for remap companies in Hampshire or surrounding areas. I was thinking the phirm in camberley was my best bet. Any advise will help.

I think that mapping out and blanking the egr on a 2017 CXEB engine is an essential modification if you want the engine to survive into old age. Along with regular oil changes of course.
Mine hasn't failed an mot since the egr delete about 3 years ago, and it's on 155k now.

I see they do two types of kit on dark side developments one to blank just the EGR and one to blank off EGR and cooler any ideas what one you had done

I'mpretty sure that my cooler is blanked off. In case the old egr wasn't closing properly even when coded out.

Just a warning, the VW dealer MOT examiner failed me as my egr was blanked off. I'm pretty bloody certain no other MOT tester in the country would though. Why would they even look at the egr pipework?

I had to replace the small pipe which I'd luckily kept and do the old coke can blanking mod instead. Straight pass after that.

EGR or Dpf delete makes the van illegal to drive on the UK roads.

It should fail the MOT and insurance will be void.

Just sayin. .... To highlight the legal side of things.

..

Yes, DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) deletes are illegal for vehicles driven on public roads in the UK and many other regions. Removing these emission-control systems violates environmental regulations, causing MOT failures and significant fines up to £40k.

My 2017 CXEB is free breathing, when I replaced the intake manifold due to being filled with gunk, I also found traces of water in there too, I had the AdBlue coded out, gutted the DPF and completely removed the entire EGR system from the van (Darkside kit), the EGR is currently being used as a door stop in the garage.
Obviously it needed a remap to make the best of it and remove any possible fault codes, the van is now much quieter, smoother to drive, more efficient and obviously much quicker, the DSG and 4Motion make very good use of the mid-range torque.

It’s passed 2x MOT in its current state of trim.

Whats the "old coke can" mod?
