Team Leisuredrive

Hi Martinw,

I've had two flexi panels fitted on the basis that, while there is plenty of space on the roof, not much of it is flat. The two panels run lengthwise from about a foot in front of the light well to the point where the roof starts to curve down towards the windscreen. The controller is located on the inside of the wardrobe.

Temptimg fate here, but have had them for 2 years now and all good.
Do you have any pictures of the panels placement on the roof profile?

Do you have anything to deflect air over the leading edge? Does the leading edge start to face downwards the front slope?
Thanks

No and yes!

As i mentioned, the front edge lies where the roof starts curving down and the front edges of the two panels are glued but there is no lip or deflector. I had wondered about the effect of wind, but so far, so good.

Wondering now that with the controller in the wardrobe and the battery under the bench seat, how do you route the cable past the fridge?

I didn't fit it, but I think it comes down the side of the wardrobe, returns along the wardrobe base and then goes down behind the fridge. The chap who i asked to look at fitting an AMT shunt thought the cable had been very well routed. I'll take a photo tomorrow if that helps.

I like the layout & the small cooker/grill can be accessed even with the bed down, just fold back & remove the first seat cushion. Although SWMBO likes the extra space with the caravan which is true & that’s what we’ll be using on Friday for a week in the Dales. But we’ve been to some places where it’s not suitable to tow a caravan & intend to take advantage of its size. It was a bit of a steep learning curve when we got it. I guess if you’d gone from a tent to VW rather than a caravan it would have been more appealing. She’s coming round I think 😬

So you have the Crusader with a side elevating roof?

Did you specify it or just buy it ready converted?

It's pretty much as when we bought it last March. I think it was converted in 2021 judging from the paperwork & only did 1000 miles after being converted, I guess whoever had it done wasn't a fan. We've not slept up top as of yet, but perhaps we could try it next time we go somewhere suitable obviously without the caravan.

Here you go...

You can request a custom size if you order the standard size which is one-up (e.g. for a 95 cm wide custom blind order the one which is 100 cm wide). We ordered the kitchen one first, then the bench seat one a couple of months later when the kitchen proof of principle was a success. Note that the drop-down menu on eBay is for blind size not overall unit size (the frame adds 8 cm to the blind size, i.e. 4 cm each side). So my measurements were:

Kitchen
Overall size required (given to seller in order comments): 75 cm x 44 cm
So blind size required (overall size minus 8 cm each dimension): 67 cm x 36 cm
Therefore next standard blind size up (to choose in the drop-down when you order): 80 cm x 65 cm

Bench Seat
Overall size required (given to seller in order comments): 100.5 cm x 52.5 cm
So blind size required (overall size minus 8 cm each dimension): 92.5 cm x 44.5 cm
Therefore next standard blind size up (to choose in the drop-down when you order): 100 cm x 50 cm

If you order them now, then the first and last line of each should be what's needed. You'll want to double-check those measurements first though! :p I removed the curtain rails then used double-sided tape and bits of cardboard to work out where I thought the blind should go. It was easier once we had the kitchen one because I could use that to make a template of the correct curve radius when working out the bench seat dimensions.
Hello Oscar,
I've only recently bought my van and I am interested in these blinds/fly screens. Thanks for the details above. I am not very practical and so in your last paragraph, did the template determine where fixings were required? How did you fix them in place and does this require some expertise?
