Afternoon,

I've read about the Tafmet EGR simulators on this forum and think this is a good solution to just blanking/mapping/replacing the EGR.
It seems that the majority of them are for the BiTDi engines and there is nothing directly listed for the EU5 140 engine. I wrote to Tafmet who said "We don't do a CAAC device", to which I replied "Is it not EA189 based then and same as some of the other units?"
"I don't know - I just do the packing. The tech guy is on holiday..."

So....does anybody know if any of Tafmet's simulators can be fitted to the 140 CAAC EU5 engine? I couldn't find any detail here when I search for it.

When it was taken off, it was really gunged up so it was ready for replacement or at least deep clean.
I suspect they both have issues, but the CAAC issues are not as catastrophic

Hello John,

I'm about to change the EGR on my T6 eu5 CAAC, found the EGR and want to change the 2 pipes as well while I'm at it. Did you change those 2 pipes as well and if so what part number are they if you don't mind me asking. I want to search them online before I get ripped off by TPS.

Also did VW update these pipes on CAAC engines too? I know these don't suffer the issues on newer T6's with adblue etc.

I personally didn't do anything Stefan - I bought a replacement part from GSF, had it delivered and then dropped it off at my trusted local mechanic. He charged me two hours labour and said it was a pain in the @rse.

I bought this Wahler branded EGR cooler module from GSF, which was £361 (it's now £355) and I got £108 back when I returned the one that came off the van. I didn't buy any extra parts so I doubt the 2 pipes were changed.
What's now interesting is, that having looked at this part again for the first time since it was fitted in August '24, is that GSF say it's not compatible but I have no idea why. The mechanic didn't mention anything when it was fitted and it looks the same.
