T6 Help: Can U Fit Swivel Plate On Double Pax Seat W/side Airbags

Whiz

Meet BANKSY - There is always "Hope"
T6 Guru
Some advice / thoughts please

My T6 has SIDE AIRBAGS fitted in the double paxs seat and this is proving a problem to FITTING A DOUBLE SWIVEL PLATE due to the Airbag wiring etc needing to stay in place (so I have been told).

I have found one Company who can fit a swivel plate etc - BUT they will disconnect the AIRBAGS, extend the wiring (under the carpet etc ) to stop all the VW warning messages coming up etc on the dashboard. The Company has proved unreliable and let me down in the past on delivery dates etc - therefore not keen!!!

If anyone has managed to do this or know a Company who can fit to a T6 - PLEASE GET IN TOUCH!!!

I did "speak" to @Pauly about a year ago about this - but then put it on the backburner.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated. Thanks Paul

Why would you want to permanently disconnect your side airbag? Is there not a way to disconnect whilst swivelling, then reconnect before driving off again? Assuming the issue is one of how the double seat rotates.
On my single seat the cable comes up through the swivel ring, don’t know how the double is configured.
Really wouldn’t advise permanently disabling any SRS item.

Think it would depend what swivel you are using, as dave says the singles have an opening in the middle where the pivot point is but lots of the doubles are a solid plate on the floor not designed for cables to come through and if you have one of the slide back and turn units then theres no chance
If it turns in place then it may be possible to get the wires through/make a hole for them but you would need to be very sure they wont get damaged/pulled when you are rotating

Hi to be clear I don't want to disconnect it - BUT I want the double seat to swivel.... & that MAY be the only option. However I did have one discussion with a company who may be able to do what you are sugggesting!

Fingers crossed and I will keep everyone informed as discs sons progress.

That is where are now heading fingers crossed and will keep you all informed
Hi

I looked at the same issue with my shuttle and in the end decided to stick with the front facing double seat. The converter wouldn’t touch it (quite rightly) as he had only heard of wiring being permanently disconnected to enable the swivel. I couldn’t find a way to disconnect the airbags when I swivelled the seat. Sorry I couldn’t be more positive

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I will share any News this week and in to the future on this etc.
One day we will have a solution I hope.

As I say I rally appreciate everyone sharing their experiences on this. Cheers Paul.

Hi I just clicked on your profile and saw that Custom Camper Solutions were able to help you out? Was that the case?
I'm looking for a similar solution, the Kiravan kit looks good but just before I clicked to order I saw the caveat not suitable for air bag double seat. :(
Any advice gratefully rec'd

Mark

Yes they were the guys. It took them alot longer than they quoted for - though they only charged me what they had quoted. A real genuine company and a great owner.

The Airbag remains connected when I am going along and disconnected when swivelled.

Give them a bell, as their solution works for me. Be warned I am not sure if they will want to do another one as not straight forward. Most companies just disconnect.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that. I spoke to Marius down in Wales earlier, he explained the challenges, which are not insurmountable, but more a nuisance. Most T6's I've seen don't have seat airbags in the two seater seat. Mine's a basic startline model anyway so can't understand why it's even in. Wondering how complicated it would be to disconnect.

They have to put a resistor on it I understand ... and you may.want to think about your insurance. I am not technical ... which is why I went to a specialist. Cheers Paul
