My clutch master cylinder is dead, does anyone have a new or useable secondhand one

Part number is 7E0721401F and is the type with the internal switch/sensor with wiring

Having spent quite some time trying to find a new one both online and from my local motor factors, they are out of stock everywhere including VW and even VW can't tell me when they will be back in stock

Mine went last year, managed to source one from Autodoc after being told there was a 12 week wait time.

I have one on back order with no delivery time available
Have complained to VW uk but got usual muppet answers of no value
Suggest everyone with this issue contacts the Motoring Ombudsman and creates as much agro for VW as possible, I am going to, so at least someone might pull their finger out!

I’ve had the same issue. I was recovered to the garage and quoted £360 to replace the master cylinder, as this was a try this first and investigate further if it doesn’t cure it, and the part wasn’t available anyway, I fetched it back from the garage to investigate further. No loss of brake fluid. I watched the fluid level in the reservoir to see if it moved at all when pumping the clutch as this can apparently be an indication the master has failed, but that was fine. I then clamped the hydraulic pipe feed to the slave cylinder and the clutch pedal went solid again. So I now believe the slave cylinder is the problem and not the master. I’ve had a quote for just under £1,700 to replace the slave cylinder, clutch kit, dual mass flywheel. It’s a 6 speed so I’m being advised to replace all these at the same time. I’m now considering doing the work myself. Does anyone have a workshop procedure for this?

As a rough guide
All linkages off gearbox, electric connections starter motor ect, drop subframe, shafts and bolts holding gearbox in them remove gearbox, sounds simple but it is a big job and the gearbox and subframe are bloody heavy

Thank you, the cost saving is quite a motivator. I need to research fully before committing. Thankfully it isn’t now not our only vehicle which allows us some flexibility.

Unless you think the Ombudsman is going to make some for you its a waste of time.

VW UK, a separate legal entity that acts as the importer, is not the problem - im sure theyd love to get their hands on some and make a few shekels selling them.

The problem lies with Volkswagen Group AG, who are not manufacturing/sourcing them, and the ombudsman has zero authority in Germany.

I found a second hand one at Transporter Heaven near Evesham. I opted to collect as I needed it in a hurry and they had a yard full of Transporters they were breaking

They do post parts as well
