Morning all, now I know its been a while and everything seemed to go quiet on this line of adblue chat, well I have collected my bus this morning from VW. They had trouble trying to find the fault as, although it was on less than 90miles until no start, no faults were coming up on their test equipment. So firstly they tried a new adblue tank, still didnt clear it. Although shortly before I dropped my bus off the level indicator had started to sometimes dissappear and reappear. Depending on whether i was going uphill or downhill believe it or not!! Anyway, still unable to reset the system. So they called and asked if they could swap out the glow plug 3. I did ask if this didnt work, do I have to pay for it as it again wasn't being shown as faulty. They told me this glow plug has a system that is connected to the reset system and something else. I forget that bit now. Still no reset! So they asked about the nox sensor i had replaced. How many years ago etc etc. It was only changed in November shortly before everything went "awol"! However, none were available. After a few weeks, one arrived from Germany. So I got a call this week to say...she's all fixed! Just collected her! 6500 on the adblue, runs really nicely and even my start stop works. Im guessing a software update has been tried too and sorted this. Its not worked for 5 or 6 years. Never bothered me though! They had found that the nox sensor which was swapped out, although it fitted in my bus, the part number on the sensor, on their system showed it wasn't compatible with my van. Mines a 17 plate and I think theres a bit of a grey area with a few systems and parts around this time, as to which system and which parts are compatible. I'd read that somewhere before, prior to all this too. I am genuinely in a quandary. This fix has cost a tiny bit over 3k. They discounted a bit, one because of time to fix (which is 6 weeks roughly) another was because of changing things that couldnt be orived to be faulty. I've just had a lot of jobs done to her. General maintenance to be fair, new discs pads, tensioner belt and pulley, alternator clutch as made an awful noise, steering pump as that was a bit "whirry" plus even more jobs last year. All of which have between 500 and 2000 miles on them. She's fantastic condition and get looks and photos taken everywhere. But after ownership of 8 years it may be time to let someone else buy her. However...VW did make an offer and I politely declined!! Less than half of what my insurance company valued it at!!
With all of that in mind, changing of the nox sensor, I did see about a year ago, a guy online said he'd always changed the t6, and few other brands I think BMW was one, with Genuine Nox sensors, as sometimes aftermarket brand's bring up more faults literally the day after. So in my experience it seems to be, tread cautiously, start with the basics you can do and check yourself and tell whoever you're getting to sort it everything you've done. I REALLY hope this helps. I can now run my bus knowing that I have a VW warranty so guarantee the work now, so going to put some miles on her and maybe sell her when its warmer!!
