Hi everyone,
Well my first 2 months of ownership of a 2016 T6 Highline panel van is sadly not proving to be a happy experience. Having owned a T4 for the last 23 years with that wonderful 2.5 TDI AJT series engine, I have been reluctant to move on to a newer model, having heard numerous tales of their complications. However, as the dreaded tin worm is slowly eating its way into the T4 & the fact that as it is still on the original clutch that will need replacing soon, I took the plunge & bought a T6.
It's a tidy T6 Highline 150bhp. It has done a high mileage, but it had a factory rebuilt engine fitted about 27,000 miles ago. Despite its well used mileage, it drives quite nicely. It threw the auxilary belt in the first few days, so we trailered the van over to my excellent mechanic, who had it for a couple of weeks & went through everything he could find. He replaced all belts & tensioners, oil & filter change, new battery, wheel bearing etc. etc. Now the dash warning lights are starting to appear. So far we've had glow plug light (he thinks probably caused by the turbo - there's definitely some 'whine'), coolant temperature, probably sensor, as it's the only code that comes up on a dianostic scan, but no real problem as there's plenty of coolant in the system & it doesn't rise above normal running temperature, now the battery charging light has come on, but the new battery has been coded into the ECU, so maybe the sensor module next to the battery, or an alternator fault ? Anyway, the T4 is in with the mechanic having new door locks fitted (in 23 years it's had more door locks than I've had hot dinners !). When that's back the T6 will be going in again for further investigation. It was a pretty cheap van, so I was fully prepared to spend a hefty amount to sort any issues & providing these issues can be corrected, I have no complaint in that regard.
So, a couple of questions for you experienced T6 owners. The van is Euro6 & has the separate Adblue tank, but despite going through every function on the MFD, I cannot find anything that tells me how much Adblue is left remaining in the system or any SCR reference ? If it doesn't have that capability, presumably some sort of warning will come up on the display telling me when to top up the Adblue ? The other thing is, I feel I should invest in a suitable scan tool, which can hopefully read any error codes on the T6 & also work for the T4. I don't really want to spend hundreds of pounds on one, but some recommendations of suitable ones to buy, would be helpful.
Any advice appreciated. Many thanks
