Sounds like you need a thinner pipe. Should come out easily enough especially when warm.Just tried to pull some oil out of the dipstick tube, was nigh on impossible. Should it come out quite easily or is there a chance the pipe I'm using is too fat and causing a vacuum?
Hello, yes mine had a bit more than yours removed by roadside assistance and the VW garage essentially refused to believe me when I told them! Haven’t had any issues with that particular warning since. However about 5 months after this my van kept going into limp mode and following further investigation it was found to have a faulty injector rail, which was replaced under warranty (thank god!). Since then no issues (fingers crossed) and that was about 6 months ago. VW commercial garage were particularly unhelpful with this and a number of other things. It’s clearly an ongoing problem with loads of the T6’s and they just don’t want to take ownership! Good luck.Hi, I am after some advice on the "reduce oil level visit workshop" warning, called out roadside assistance and the mechanic was very familiar with the problem, after removing 1.25 litres, he said the issue was either a faulty injector or with the regen process, the van is going in for a service very soon. When I spoke to the garage, they were very surprised at the amount that was taken out. Has anyone else experienced that amount taken out, and any thoughts on the cause?
I first got the warning after the first service. The VW garage that serviced it couldn't look at it for a couple of weeks, so another VW garage took some oil out, and I assumed it had been overfilled. This time, the warning came on near the end of a 200-mile trip, and I now believe it to be a regen problem. VW should have fitted a regen warning light. I am now aware of the problem, and after using the van, I check the rev counter before switching the engine off. Previously, when checking the oil level, as long as it wasn't low, I didn't think about it.Prior to this incident when did you last check the oil level? Reason I ask is some folk get theirs back from a service with too much oil and that eventually triggers the warning.
Mine gives the warning periodically and there's nothing wrong at all with the oil level.

Thanks for all these messages.
I had the reduce oil level warning come on about 200 miles after a service. Checked oil level on dip stick and it was over the max line when cold.
Bought an oil suction gun from screwfix but the tube was too big to fit down and not long enough anyway. Got some longer and smaller bore pipe and attached it to the original but it wouldn't pull and oil even though I could see oil on the outer of the pipe.
Decided to buy a 12v oil extractor pump from amazon for £18 which worked a treat. Sucked it out even when the oil was stone cold.
Got it to half way on the dip stick when the engine was cold and so far after about 300 miles the warning hasn't come back on.

My t6.1 reduce oil light was on when dropped off delivery milage only multiple times at garage and updates soon as its out of warranty they want me to pay for diagnostic unbelievable to be honest california has covered 12500 miles only there remedy twice was to take oil out roll on 400 miles for mot engine management light came on while in for mot and there now saying oil temp sensor faulty oil pressure valve faulty cost with diagnostic and mot £1300 pounds my argument is multiple failed regenerations are causing this issue on short journeysI’ve got a December 2020 Vw t6.1 kombi. I purchased it when it was a year old so I don’t know what happened in its first year but I’ve had nothing but issues with the ‘reduce oil level, go to workshop’ warning for the past 2 years.
I have been to my local Vw dealership a number of times and I’ve had roadside assist out several times trying to sort the issue out to no avail. The warranty has now expired but the issue has happened again. It’s going back in on Thursday for more tests but I have little confidence they get to the bottom of it. I personally don’t think they know how to fix it.
When I first got the vehicle VW said it was a known issue and an update would come out soon to fix the problem….i was one of the first people in the uk to get this update. From what I’ve been told the update reduced the number of regens and made the sensor less sensitive to oil levels increasing. They also changed the oil and reduced the level to nearer minimum than halfway or nearer maximum level. This just meant that the warning light took longer to come on. When it eventually come on they said it wasn’t the same issue as the others I had read as the update had fixed that problem….i pointed out I was one of the first to get the update so surely I’d be one of the first to get the problem again….surely enough time hasn’t elapsed to make that statement!
In October 2020 (less than 4 months ago) it went in and a VW master technician took it apart and said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. They then put it all back together and changed the oil. They said it was probably my driving style….i did too many short journeys and was too heavy on the accelerator and should accelerate as slowly as possible.
I highlighted that my driving style and trip journeys were not an issue with my t4 or my t5 previously or any other vehicle that had adblu technology. I also pointed out the vehicle was not sold with a warning that it was for long distances only.
Last night the reduce oil warning came on again…after 3.5 months since the master technician said it was fine. I have cut out non essential short journeys and I’ve been using cruise control a lot more on longer journeys.
This is really a warning to people…if you’ve got this issue get it registered before the warranty runs out and keep an eye on the oil levels to see if your oil is being diluted. Keep records of your conversations etc.
I have friends that have experienced this and read other threads where other owners have experienced the same.
I believe they have a major issue and are refusing to take responsibility. I was told by the local dealership that on the newer models you could have a button to do manual regens and that might be an option for mine to have it retro fitted.
Basically I’ve had nothing but issues and VW seem to be only doing things that increase the amount of time it takes for the warning light to come on.
Has anyone experienced similar? And has anyone actually had the problem fixed? Maybe it’s just a faulty engine I have and the only answer would for them to replace it…I don’t know but it’s been a nightmare!
I'd have waved adios to it at that very moment. My t6.1 reduce oil light was on when dropped off delivery milage only
