T6.1 ‘Only Leave Vehicle In P Position’

They don't come up when driving due to distraction. I tend to notice mine as I spend a moment connecting the phones or disconnecting the phones at the start and end of a drive and then you also get a pop up of any new ones.

If not check the notification area as @Phil_j89 notes.
Mine did. Left work and it interrupted my sat nav home guide so I selected the update later option.

Interesting, where you stopped in traffic at all?

When I've tried to find them when moving I get "not available when driving"

I tend to let mine update as all the ones so far note that the update actually happens on the next start of the vehicle.

It's a shame it's not more integrated with the app so you can see and be notified of pending updates.

Pull down from the top of the infotainment screen (like you would do a phone), and then scroll across - there will be info there about any updates that are pending.
Is this for all the infotainment units or just the one with the bigger screen?

Spewing just had this error come up on my late 2023 T6.1

Will see if it replicates during the week and if so to the service centre we go.

Oddly the error completely disappeared and hasn't happened again in the last 6 starts since happening. Not sure if that's a good thing or not lol

I just got this same error. “Only leave vehicle in position P. Please visit workshop.” I’m leaving to drive down to Spain tomorrow and so will not be able to get it looked at before. Not ideal but assuming it should be ok.

I've recently been getting the same warning intermittently. Is there a way to switch off this pointless 'warning' without going through a garage? It doesn't affect the choice of gears or the fact that the van is in P every time I leave it. As far as I can see it's only linked to being able to remove the key when in Park which I can still do. Also if this 'warning' is on my dash at MOT will it fail?

The warning isn't pointless if the van can't sense the position of the gear selector. You could damage the starter pinion trying to start a DSG box in gear and if it also disables the start stop (I can't recall if it does) then that may be an MOT issue as it's emissions related.

This warning relates to a microswitch in the gear selector housing which can get contaminated with dust etc. It does not have any effect on the gear selection in the gearbox - I’ve not heard that it can cause any damage to the gearbox? I disassembled mine cleaned with an air line and it has been fine . VW sell a replacement kit for this issue.

Id like to do this first before forking out money on a replacement. Is it easy to do/access? Any tips?

Would also be interested in cost/guide as this has just started popping up on my 2021 T6.1, after parking it on my slightly sloping down drive oddly, but presume not related..

Is this a known VW issue then?

I am due to drive to France this month and today each time I start the van I get the same warning message on the dash, Is this something I should rectify before my journey? I don't fancy stripping out the van really before I go but likewise don't want issues whilst I'm away!
Any advice greatly appreciated as always!

I’ve got mine booked in at the garage end of this week under warranty. Shall let you know what they say 👍.

I visited a gearbox specialist today and they couldn't fix the issue (£40 for the diags still), so have it booked in at my local VW Commercial van shop in Wolves. He was able to confirm the following though;

Carried out diagnostic test and cleared all stored DTC fault codes. Diagnostic test revealed fault in central electronics B116229 - selector lever park position lock switch, range/performance.

It looks like a known VW issue across multiple VAG models if you watch this YT video -
therefore I am expecting the VW Commy dealership to apply the workaround kit potentially?

My warranty covers £1,000 so if that doesn't cover it I'll be shocked and annoyed in equal parts lol. Although if it's a known issue, should it be free.....? Or is that wishful thinking on my part.
