T6.1 Heated Steering Wheel

On dsg it’s a switch to gnd when not on P.
On P it’s floating, “not on P” it’s GND
I shorted it to gnd to verify, and I can drive without pb, no more warning while driving.
Now the problem is when I open the door !!
(Controler think I’m not on P)

If you want to do quick fix you can short to gnd, it will bell during driver door opening, but you can drive.

I will take dsg signal to send it to pin 9.

Keeping in touch.

You can try „PIN 2 „ from T2he.

-steering wheel is f***ing hot :cool::cool:
-no more error displayed on virtual cockpit
-heating button work well
-heating can be launch from 5F (multimedia)

but:
-I still have error in vcds log due to swing arm
-I can't add 5mph with "+" for ACC, it only add 1 by 1 (hope it can be changed by vcds)

I will make a full resume when everything will be ok.

We've not saw this issue and the 5mph increase works well,
The swing arm issue will probably have to stay as it causes no visible faults on the vehicle, and the stalks running through module 16 isnt being used,

Did you get the temperature adjustment working via 5f too?

Happy to see you cracked it

Yes 3 temperature available via 5F.

It needs to be connected to pin 2 (blue/purple) on key withdrawal lock solenoid around the igntion barrell for error to stop on DSG models.

What is a swing arm? The slipring :)? Did you change the stalks as well with slirping?

Let me know if you fix your cruise increments for +/-5 as mine only does one now too and I only changed my button pack

If you used correct slipring you need 5Q0 953 502 M combi switch to stop errors. Otherwise the slipring is looking for it due to them being connected directly to it not like original ones are

Pauly I managed to wire mine up but had to scrap the idea of mk8 slipring as it has two LIN BUS signals where ours (T6.1) has only one going to the wheel for the buttons etc. The other one is the updated CANBUS which our van doesnt seem to have. I went for 5Q0953569B slipring and after running few extra wires the wheel is on and toasty :D
But in my meantime my lane, light, sign assist systems got messed up so not sure if it was caused by the install or me messing around too much. Wont know until I visit VW in two weeks for them to recalibrate bits.
Hi Stan
Just about to fit my new mk8 R wheel in conjunction with the 5Q0 squib haven’t seen anyone mention where they got the power supply from for the heating element
I guess it’s from the fuse box position under the steering wheel?

Just completed the wiring and coding for my heated seats using the factory controls all worked perfectly after adding a new fuse into position 55

So I expect I need to add another fuse into that box to get power to the squib for the steering wheel heater?

Any info would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Yes any pre wired empty fusbox slot will do (permanent live)

Hi Stan thanks for your reply, got the power to the 5Q0 squib for the heating and got canbus high and low from the loom behind the stereo head unit. I can see the 5Q0 in vcds and turned on the steering wheel heating in HVAC so I can see the heater on my head unit and have 3 stages but no heating working unfortunately and the button on the wheel does nothing any ideas? Is the activation for the steering wheel button somewhere else other than than HVAC or do you think something else may not be correct

It works, but swinging arms are in fault in Vcds in 16-steering wheel controler.
I will short it not to have error.
Nearly finished
Ok, clear. I used the slipping only as a "pass through".

here are my connections:
on the driving wheel, cruise must be on T12/11, not T12/8.

T14 (black) = 5Q0972726
Power:
T14/1 = positive for the heating
T14/8 = negative for heating
Signals:
T14/2 = +15 contact for MFSW from T16/4
T14/4 = GND for MFSW from T16/1
T14/14 = LIN for MFSW from T16/3
T14/7 = Cruise from T16/2

T4 (yellow) = 4H0972133
T4/1 = airbag from T16/5
T14/2 = airbag from T16/6

so I need to wire the 2 "Can Bus Comfort" to the slip ring, is it correct?

thanks @Mikew2891 .
Hi
Just wondering if you can help?
I’ve installed my Golf 8R heated wheel in my T6.1 along with a 5Q0 slip ring
My van is a 2021 5speed manual gearbox

With your wiring pin out list for the T14 and T16 plugs all worked perfectly Cruise, horn menus everything except for the heater button

I have power to the heater terminals on the slip ring and I have installed canbus high and low but I would like to confirm it’s on the correct pins T14 pin 5&6?

Also I have tapped into can high and low behind the radio in the loom for the main radio ISO plug can high and low grey connector
orange/ brown can low
and Purple can high

Could you confirm this is correct or should I be joining the canbus in another location?

I have the three stage heating control I can select in the radio screen after turning it on in HVAC in VCDS and the icon on the bottom of the consumers screen but the heating will not activate

The button on the steering wheel does nothing either

Just trying to rule out a wiring problem before I go further with more coding

Any advice would be much appreciated thank you
