Does anyone know how to confirm that the map update is actually happening on the T6.1 Discover Media "MIB 3"??
I have actually updated the maps a couple of times over the few years we’ve had our van, but each time I do it, it does my head in!
I’ve got the new files on a USB plugged in to the USB-C socket and turn the ignition on, without starting the engine - and wait……
It’s been sitting in the garage (using our Victron multiplus trickle charge to keep the battery topped up) for about 6 hours yesterday and another 3 or 4 today, and the map version hasn’t changed.
Last time I did it, I noted that it took about 6 hours over 2 days. This is insane!
I don’t understand how a service department could ever do these updates - they’d have to keep the vehicle for days just to update the bloody maps!?
The other 2 VWs I had before this would actually show that something was happening when I updated the maps and it only took a reasonably short time.
We don’t drive our van much lately so I’ve given up and just going to see if it ever updates when we drive it next. It’s as if we have to take it for a long drive just to get the maps to update???
But that’s just me guessing - since it gives no indication of what is happening, I don’t know if last time really took 6 hours, or it just worked when we drove the car that last time….
It shouldn’t matter if the engine is running or not - the instructions sure don’t mention starting the engine.
My other frustration is I can’t tell what version of the map database is in the huge tar download file - sadly I didn’t keep a record of the name of the last file I used. I just saw that the new file was dated November 2024 and my last update was October 2024.
So there is even a risk that my new update is actually the same database version 23.12 that is already installed! So the update won’t do anything anyway if that’s the case.
Insanity!
Does anyone have any tips on how to make this process less annoying??
