Suddenly I want an electric ford van :-0

Yes, they probably have many hours of conversations with each other in the waiting room of the local Ford garage.

Much like the BiTurbo suferers have a similar amount time while waiting two months for a courtesy van to become available.

Our pot is black enough that we're in no position to question the shade of their kettle. Bedford CF owners from 45 years ago would be laughing merrily at both camps if they could see us today.

I'm sure Transit owners make much the same comments about Transporter BiTurbo engines.
Someone I know has been researching new vans and has been on here looking.
They quoted the bi-turbos, EGR and DOF issues and dual mass flywheels. It’s not a great selling point. Until they looked on here they were quite taken with the Transporter idea.

As has been said on here lorra lorra times before - the more complicated these systems are (any brand), the more there is to go wrong.
DPF/EGR - what a great idea for pollution controls but replacing them every 40,000 (_?_) miles just pushes the pollution elsewhere - mining/manufacturing/shipping etc. Also fuel economy goes down - so end up just swapping a couple of pollution items for other types of pollution.
Still - gotta keep the consumer consuming.
Ok - maybe a little exaggeration but I'm sure on these forums there have been problems at 20,000 odd miles and some haven't had a problem in 100,000+ miles. Pros cons etcetc

All I know is I needed a new DMF at 32k miles and that’s pretty pathetic in my book, especially for a commercial vehicle.
Nothing to do with the emissions controls as mine is a T5.1.

My Golf is built different- a lot more reliable than the Transporter. It’s totally doable.

Like you say - it’s probably all manufacturers now, and emissions controls seem to be problematic. I don’t see why they should be - we can send folk to the moon. Sadly I think it’s manufacturers (lead by financial advisors) creating the problems for profit.

My Golf caught fire and was destroyed in about 20 seconds...

I remember years ago - my mechanic who I knew quite well (I had a T4) said he had a disproportionate amount of T5's in with clutches and or gearbox problems. That seemed to be the T5 weakness.
Each model has its weak points.
