Steel wheels - decision time

I'm going to replace the 20" alloys that came on my van with steel wheels. I want something I’m not too precious about (i.e. 20” alloys) and some AT tyres. I was looking at S+S steels or JBW Roks, both with Falken AT3 Wildpeaks. But both are out of stock and I’d like something for this summer.

Two options - 18” JBW Lenis or 17” Rogue Ravages. I’m leaning towards the Rogues at the moment.

I’m leaning towards the swamper look, but don’t want to stick another expensive alloy on and just end up with another wheel I’m worried about scratching.

Any thoughts or advice? Thanks!

Yep....I used the same. No idea if theres an alternative but been on 2 vehicles with the same bolt, 70k miles and no issues.

A number of 18" steel about and that size would give better ride. You would be better off with AS, All Season tyres better handling better tarmacadam grip wet or dry, last longer and a lot quieter. Just better all round unless you have business or pleasure off road. Even then for most people the better choice would be AS. Perhaps AS arguably will not provide best posing rights if that is more important.

Hi Danny. I've just fitted some defender steelies to my t5 using the t5 bolts with the built-in washer, but the tyre fitter said they might not be the correct ones for the LR wheels. Which ones have you used?
Are you using VW center caps with them?

Are they from the original Ladder frame Defender or the new recent made somewhere else Defender?

If you're using the one's with the rectangular slots, I think you'll struggle to get enough off the edge for them to fit before you reach the rectangle. If its the circular holed one's then that's what I have and so I know you can achieve enough off....if you're right handed, I found it best yo use left hand bias tin snips...and visa versa if you're left handed. Really neat cut and needed just a light run around with sandpaper afterwards. A bit if sika on the nuts and they were solid.

Yes, the all black ones with slots. I was looking at them just now thinking there's not much meat to cut off before the slots would reveal. Hopefully won't notice it too much when they're on. I don't have the luxury of curved snips, only the common or garden straight jobbies 😄

I think someone was selling some chrome centered ones with the circular holes...just in case you bugger yours up...:eek:
