Hi all,

A quick question. I plan to sound deaden the wheel arches this weekend, but wanted to ask if I should look to remove to old carpet adhesive from the panels before applying the sound deadening? It's been on there for some time I think.

Thanks.

I reckon yes as sound deadening will adhere better to clean solid paint rather than what looks like a wooly jumper.
Try petrol, UPVC window cleaner, acetone or for a really gentle solvent WD40 but stop with the more aggressive solvents if the VW paint starts to get tacky and dissolve.

No issue doing the inside but you’ll get a better bang for your buck by using 10mm closed cell self adhesive foam on the back of the wheel arch liner.
Have a Search on the Forum under sound deadening.
