Sorry Dav tec I cant reply to that . Wait till i have stopped laughing . and ill give it ago .I think that comparison is a bit misleading to be honest.
Looking at two struts on a bench at full extension doesn’t tell you what they’re doing once they’re actually on the van. What matters is where the damper is sat in the stroke at the chosen ride height and how much usable bump travel is left before it starts getting into the bump stop.
The advertised drop figure as well, 80mm vs 90mm or whatever, doesn’t really prove much. That’s just the adjustment window on the threaded body, not the damper’s actual working travel. Most kits only have around 30mm of adjustment anyway.
Ride quality is more down to available bump travel, when the bump stop starts working, spring rate and damper valving. If a setup is getting into the bump stop too early it’s going to feel harsh regardless of how long the strut looks sat on the floor.
So comparing the visible length of two struts off the van and the headline drop figures doesn’t really tell you how either kit will ride once fitted and set up properly.
Hi @FishinbrineI have NSL's on mine at roughly 90mm drop, running 265/40R20's and my van (T32 LWB full camper) is a dream to drive, ride is significantly improved, remember tyre choice can massively affect the ride, some tyres are much stiffer and heavier which can also contribute to ride quality.
I wouldn't be without my NSL's so if your ride is harsh I would look at tyre pressures, and a few other things before considering anything else maybe.
No problem, have a laugh if you want.Sorry Dav tec I cant reply to that . Wait till i have stopped laughing . and ill give it ago .
Yeah fair point, I have a terrible assumption that everyone's vans are campers of some sort!Hi @Fishinbrine
@Adamlewis1988 didn’t mention how loaded his current van is.
Similar suspension setups are bound to give different results comparing a ‘full camper’ with an almost empty van.
My LWB T32 Kombi has a completely different ride empty to when loaded a couple of hundred kg.
one sentance,,,,,,Anoraks, drive the f’kin van and try to enjoy it, on stock T32 suspension but only go out after dark as I’m soooo embarrassed.
I waste too much energy educating people who try to compete with me , After 6000 vans you will learn hopefully .No problem, have a laugh if you want.
The points still stand though.
Looking at two struts on a bench at full extension doesn’t tell you where either damper is sitting in its stroke once fitted to the van at ride height, how much usable bump travel is left, or when it’s getting into the bump stop.
The advertised drop range doesn’t tell you that either. That’s just the adjustment window on the threaded body, not the damper’s working position once the van is actually set up.
So if I’m wrong, explain which part of that is wrong and why.
Historically when i tell people what's wrong with their vehicle or suspension , there will be someone who disagrees and starts a Bar fight . You will notice that i blanked of the logos to avoid conflict in this case . BUT, To remind you , you commented on a picture that i posted 4 or 5 months ago saying you didnt agree with my assessment of the customers complaints and my explanation of its cause because of a picture of two struts ??? . The picture clearly shows the problem and why the customer was having issues thats why i posted it . i dont know why you cant understand the issue ?? .In the post you responded to I never made it personal or tried to compete with you.
I didn’t criticise you, your setup or your preferred brand. I questioned the logic behind comparing two struts on a bench and using headline drop figures to explain ride quality.
The point I made was simply that looking at them at full extension doesn’t tell you where the damper is sitting in its stroke once it’s on the van at ride height, how much usable bump travel is left, or when the bump stop starts doing the work.
That’s a technical point about how suspension behaves on the vehicle, not a criticism of anyone.
So far that’s the part that still hasn’t been addressed.
If you disagree with that explanation then explain which part is wrong and why.
