Solar Sheds & Other Non-t6 Solar Projects - How We Done It -

In less good news, givenergy look like they’re going under which shows the potential danger of getting locked in to a single vendor’s ecosystem. I’d have a strong preference for third party batteries with wide inverter compatibility and an inverter with local control so that you’re not locked in to a specific vendor’s cloud system.

We use Pylontek battery storage (will work with any 50v system) with a sunsynk inverter.

It has local control and a cloud based app.

It also has local integration with "Home Assistant " software that is very popular.

Though you would want a current trading company that can deal with Firmware updates and patches as needed....while also along a system to keep going when offline from the internet and run locally, IE off grid so to speak.

Have you got any links to the Givenergy situation?

It’s relatively rare to find genuinely local Home Assistant integrations for commercial hardware. Most go through the providers cloud API so will work until offgrid, or they go bust or they lock it down or put it behind a subscription or whatever.

Yeh agreed.

I'm led to believe HA can connect to the inverter via. CAN/ RS485/ WiFi

New newer range has ethernet too. (The Acure does anyway)

My sunsynk inverter is connected to my raspberry running HA using this....

Then you hack the existing battery RS484 cable that runs from the inverter by utilising the unused 1-3 pins to send the data via the aboove to HA.

The control I now have over my inverter is way beyond what the sunsynk app or their AI can provide just by using around a dozen automations in HA and it's all controlled over LAN so no internet required. Still have the dongle connected too so still have cloud access which means I can control the inverter with either.

HA pulls in all the interter data so I also get this.

That 3.13 GBP you see bottom left is what the solar earned me today after the standing charge and grid use charging the battery overnight was taken into account.

Appears prices are on the up for these panels now.

Waiting for EcoFlow 800w microinverter to be delivered by the end of the month. Unsure to order a couple of the 515w panels now before the price goes up again or do I hold off and wait 🤔

The effect of supply and demand, not many bargains at the moment.

Separately, I have a GivEnergy system (recommended by my Local Authority).
I will be writing to the LA, the installation company and my credit card company reminding them on their obligations!!

The Ecoflow Stream equipment seems to be out of stock mainly.
Might be worth waiting til July until the Lidl equipment becomes available. Their buying power should ensure keener prices and better supply....

Thanks both.

Was going to wait and hold out for maybe cheaper panels, but gave up and ordered two of these

Free delivery so saves me driving to pick them up

I've got my eye on those too
Typical went up a bit since last week. Blaming that little bit of sun we had haha

Now to decide on the best mounting on my fibreglass flat garage roof. Live near the sea and it gets rather windy here. So don't fancy them flying off in a storm.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Post a few pictures of your roof from outside and from underneath inside and we'll take a look

Didn't have time to take a picture last night, but grabbed a quick shot of the outside before rushing to get to work this morning. Garage is south-west facing.

The lower roof is my garage, and the higher one is my neighbours. Wind normally comes from the left of the picture (west and from the estuary/sea)

Can get more photos and details later this evening
