Solar Sheds & Other Non-t6 Solar Projects - How We Done It -

i wanna get some more panels. . . 4,6,8 i need to measure up to see what will fit.

but thinking these to match the mix of Longi & Ecoflow 400ishw i have now.

( have 12x 400w ish panels - which is only 4.9KWp , but all flat on the roof, which is not an ideal south facing angle . . but smashes it at mid-day during summer ) - id like to be around 8-10kwp

these all black JAs

or to add in a curve ball....

these DMEGC . . .

I was planning on using the ecoflow ultra x with 4 panels, but it's out of stock for month, much like the alternatives

Gemini 🤔 is telling me I can make a much more resilient system using victron bits (that are in stock) and a server battery, and limiting the output back into the house to 800w

I kind of like the idea of that, as if one bit fails easier to replace. I intend to use home assistant to tell the victron kit how much send (up to 800w) depending on house usage.

Would appreciate comments if any of you guys know whether this is a road worth going down (the victron kit route) rather than the all in one box. Am keen to get going as summer is approaching
The only limit you would need to put on it is a 3.6kW limit on back feed to the grid. Apply for a G98 export licence from your local DNO and then you are good to go (whether you export any to the grid or not) Without an MCS certificate, or going down the Octopus non MCS route there's nothing stopping you installing a system like mine which currently has had me not using grid power for 6 weeks or more.

That's the dream for me ...

But i still need to pay the 48p daily standing charge.

,£175.20 per year.

So I works out I need to export.. 1420kwh ... at my export rate of 12p.

To truly be £0 cost of lecc...

....

Unless i use smart AI and move over to Agile export to make quicker gains.?

What you need is a no standing charge tariff.... But Ed has scuppered that one as well.
That would be nice, I was lead to believe that the standing charge went towards the up keep of the network?.... Though saying it out loud,. That's obvs not true.

But TBF I've noticed the SC creeping up over the years.

As far as I know, there's only one supplier that is offering a 'No Standing Charge' tariff, That's Utilita. It's really a dual rate tariff where the first 2kWh is charged at twice the regular rate (which equals the standing charge on a regular tariff)
I worked out if I only used grid power for 3 months of the year (Nov, Dec & Jan) I would be £187 better off on this tariff, BUT, it's a prepayment tariff, and once you get onto one of them, it can be difficult to get off it again.
Trouble is, If you moved to Utilita for your incoming feed, you'd lose the Octopus Outgoing tariff and would have to move to a 4p SEG one.

Good to know.

I thinks I'm going to fully embrace the future, and dive in feet first to the AI thing on the Sunsynk platform.

I've got the new inverter, I just need to upgrade the MCBs from 32A to 40A/50A as the 32A is getting to warm for my liking.... Iight space out the cooker RCBO alling the busbar. As with yesterday free power...

Me charging the battery bank at 8kw and the wife backing we was hitting some big numbers...... I've never seen the meter red light flash that fast. !!!!

Thermals to get some data:

Pushing some big numbers... !!!

Things started getting to warm for my liking... So I dialed down the inverter charge settings to 120A Which reduced the load down to around 6kw.

The thermals also show that I need to upgrade the DC battery bank fuses....

I've got the 160A 00 fuses, but I can charge up to 190A.

I'd already se the max to be 150A, but your can see the fuse block and connections are getting to warm.... 50c odd and the heat is radiating along the cables.....that too hot for me.

I've already got the larger 250A 01 style fuses and holder that I'll fit.... They are huge, so will reduce heating with larger contact areas and bigger thermal mass.

At the other end of the scale, I'm getting close to the 800w maximum through my microinverter today.....
Just glad that Dave didn't relocate my panels to the neighbours garden last night....

Stunning couple of days for solar generation, the near-perfect profile below is from yesterday but today looks much the same so far. The actual numbers won't break any records given it's only early April but it's not often you see a profile for the day like that in the UK...
