Soft close sliding door retrofit

Is this an easy job? DIY or does it need coding? For those that have it - any issues or regrets? I am trying to engineer out all of the annoying things from current van in the new build and having to slam the sliding door in the middle of the night is definitely one of them!

Is there coding required? Watching a video online I got impression there was. @Pauly how much are the kits?

No coding. Running a 12v perm from wherever (mine was starter battery, through firewall, under cab flooring then up thru C pillar and through to the back) to the new motor is the tickiest part and absolutley no regrets here. First time close every time.

Hi Pauly

Good to read your post about the soft close kits great idea making the kits.
I would be interested in purchasing a tailgate soft close kit for my t6.1 which already has soft close on both sliding doors

Does anyone know where the
Module fits I bought the factory bracket but can figure out where to mount it because the secondary heater seems to be blocking the normal location.

There is no mounting bracket? You remove the existing striker and use those bolt holes to install the soft close module.

As for fitting, looks like you may need to remove the heater to get access.

Thanks for the feedback. I screwed the control module onto the top fixation of the heater. I didn’t want to loosen the heater to fit it behind although that looks like the right location.

Hi @TALLANDREW whose kit are you fitting? Are you retrofitting tailgate and sliding door?

I’m started of with the kuftec wiring loom and parts from a breakers yard. finished the install this morning and it works.

I was adding soft close / power latching on the sliding door.

I was trying to do it as close to factory fit as possible which is why I wanted to know where the module should go. In the end i don’t want to mess around with that second heater just to satisfy my ocd.

I’ve been taking video for YouTube I’ll edit the video this week and share.

Thank you @TALLANDREW did you do both the sliding door and tailgate? I would be very interested to see your YouTube video if you do not mind sharing
