Soft close not working

I've got it back and it works!

Apparently it was the J927 module which is behind the rear panel on the back of the wheel arch that had failed. I'm told it had got too hot due to the amount of fluffy insulation I had in there ... I must admit I find that unlikely but there you go.

I'm told that module (there's also a module.in the door itself) is identical left to right so swapping them over if one side is working is an easy way of diagnosing the problem. VW didn't do that as I have a bed bolted in on the other side.

Communication from VW was poor, it sounded like two modules AND the soft close motor were changed from the phone conversations I've had with them, though they did give me updates every day so that was good.

They let me talk to Alex the tech who worked on it, which was very good and he was spot on, definitely knew his stuff and is a proper Transporter fan as well.

Edit: they washed it as well and was all under warranty.

So pleased to have it back!

Edit 2: so glad it wasn't just a fuse!

Do they list prices of parts on work under warranty @StratosFearXX ?

Thanks StratosFear it appears I have just started this journey with the soft close failing a couple of times on one side along with the lights flickering on the dash intermittently when the doors are closed. Even one door on a couple of occasions not closing when it was half open, I guess the sensor not knowing where the door was and as if something was blocking it as it stuttered both ways. Only 22,000 miles in but with extended warranty 🤔 Due a service early in the new year so will see what happens.

Oh that's interesting, mine didn't go intermittent, it was working and then it wasn't. No flickering lights on the dash either.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the door does forget where it is if you mess with it too much while you're trying to get it to close.

The soft close appears to get its power from the central locking system, the power for the slide mechanism is separate. Two 40amp fuses under passenger seat for the power slide, couldn't find any specific fuses for the soft close. But it's not fuses on yours if it's intermittent of course.

All I have done presently is to lube the hinge mechanisms but l will check the fuses…so thanks @ StratoFear for that little nugget. It still has a slight rattle in the offside sliding door, annoying because you hear it where you’re sat. As they very intermittent issues and the dash shows the issues I’ m not too fussed. I hope its covered in the extended warranty when it goes in for annual service early next year.

Good luck, report back please!
