Side Door won’t always open

Hi all

Tried a search to no avail, so asking about side door. When opening the van sometimes (50-50) the passenger side door won't unlock, I have to go over the passenger seat and open it manually, but also it doesn't open 1st time. This can take several pushes backwards and forwards (sometimes 1st time), its like when you are priming a hand pump then suddenly the pressure is there and in this case the door opens, anyone else had this issue
