Shuttle Insurance

I know from my own experience that they will massively reduce the price if it's an 8 seater. At 9 seats it officially becomes a minibus in the eyes of the Insurance companies. So the simple job of getting a single passenger seat swapped into place is all that's needed.

If you're planning on converting it, Just Kampers will do a 'conversion' policy, on the understanding that the seats are coming out pronto (and let's be honest, there isn't much 'converting' you can do with them in place) .
Thanks! I'm looking for as much seats as I can squize in but on the other hand hate someone I don't know to be seating close to me whilst driving :). Van to be used for hire and reward on short and long distances (commercial leasure trips).

It was easy. I just wrote it on the v5 in the changes section and sent it back. They then sent me a new v5 with how many seats it had in it. It did say 9 seat mpv. Now its a 5 seat mpv. Actually only 4 seats but it does allow for a twin seat up front to be refitted should I wish.

I did take a video and pictures before, during and after so I had everything to hand should they ask for it but nope, just got the v5 back all done.

I bought my 9 seater (1+8) LWB 150bhp shuttle in January and LVE Isurance added it to my existing full comp sdp+business ins and changed the policy to a multi vehicle policy for £120 for next 6 months. The policy suggests the annual cost for just the shuttle was £365-ish. I’ll see at renewal time what happens?!

Thats not bad at all, although I will be looking for specialised insurance as I will be doing leisure trips. Don't really need 9 seats and my wife prefers captain seat as double bench is uncomfortable especially in panel van...

Yeah sounds easy, I haven't bought a van yet (still got my old one) but starred to search for heated black leather seat and could not find a single one so far :(

Did you just remove the seats or did you have to get rid of the floor mounts too? Has it made a difference to your insurance? I’m picking up a shuttle tomorrow

Due to have a LWB T32 9 seater Shuttle delivered in the next few days. All the comparethemarket type online quotes are coming back around £800+, but reading this gives me hope that I'll find something cheaper if I call around a bit!

I checked a reg on confused.com for a quote. It shows the vehicle is a 7 seater however the vehicle has 9 seats in it. Anybody knows why it is different? Thanks

Yeah the difference could be a lot in money term's . If you don't need the other 2 seats take them out . It might save you the ball ache of more money. Try brentacre there very reasonable I have a 8 seater . Pretty good price for the insurance.

Does sound like previous owner didn't have the need for a couple of seats so they have unclipped them and changed the v5 to bring insurance down, or it's also possible that it's been a mistake in the v5 and the owner dosent know ,don't see why you can't give an insurance company a call like Brentacare for example and give them the details and then explain how many seats it will have in your ownership and they should be able to give you a quotation , I did that with a few insurance companys as I was removing seats from a shuttle so shouldn't see why you can't say you will be adding so you can get an idea of the price

Reserved shuttle 9 seater today from Vw. I checked with dvla that simply can remove last row and send v5 with this change. 8 weeks to wait for new one was told. But, I check insurance cost with Polplan ( part of Aplan ) and quote for insuring it for business purposes is less then 700. And still can use as 9 seater when needed. Hope it will work.

Got an 8 seater Shuttle arriving tomorrow. V5 says 9 seater. Dealer says he thinks that's because that's the max no. of seats for the Shuttle vehicle type and it doesn't change if the front single passenger seat is installed at the factory.

As it happens the website for my insurer (quotemehappy) asks me to enter the number of seats, and seems happy to accept 8. Premium unchanged, but it replaces an M440i convertible so I don't take too much comfort from that

Would still be interested to hear if anyone has recent experience of how easy it was to change no. of seats recorded at DVLA.
