Safety issue- Engine dies when changing gear.

What gear were you in ?
If it was in 3rd, it hates slow speed manoeuvres. I've done it many a time.
Keep the engine revs higher by blipping the throttle in 3rd, or drop into 2nd
Can I ask how old is yours and did you get any scans to see if there was say an issue with the battery?

First van, 2019 T28
Second 2016 T28 Eu5

Both had occurances.
I'm 100% it was my driving style carried over from other vehicles

So do you think you was stalling it then and it not just cutting out? I didn’t get any judder as I’ve had with manual cars when stalling, this manual just went dead that’s why it’s frightening I didn’t even know it happened until I had zero power.

If you can return it I recommend you do. It will only happen time and time again and you will always feel nervous about it. It's as dangerous as you can get (no breaks and no steering where there's lots of pedestrians and traffic). VW don't know why it's happening. they just put it down to your driving style which I strongly doubt. Get rid and don't let them fob you off. I returned mine despite them putting a lot of pressure on me to keep it.

Definitely 2 camps on the Forum on this subject......there was a thread, but I can't find it

I didn’t buy off VW unfortunately and it’s 4 years old so I guess they’d just do nothing, what engine and was it manual that you had?

Used to happen to my van quite regularly.
Once I started disabling STOP / START every time I started the engine it never happened again, that was years ago.

I get that could be an issue but mine was actually disabled and I’d just done a 30 min motorway drive. What were you doing at the time turning or going into a roundabout?

Just out of interest what size wheels are people using with this stalling problem. I've recently changed from 20 inch to 18 inch wheels. The circumference is 7% (afaik) less and the stalling issue hasn't happened since. I can tell the gearing is much lower and of course the Speedo now reads more accurately.

Talking to the wife she reckons the A and manual restart came up on the dash when it cut out! I’ve tried recreating it but can’t I actually stalled it going round a corner (on purpose) and got the thud you normally get but I didn’t get when it cut out. It’s going onto a VW specialist for a scan tomorrow so hopefully something will come up, I must admit to been on edge driving it at the moment and won’t take any chances of jumping the gun to turn across any traffic just in case.

Well the scan came up with same as my mates so I’ve gone for anew battery so now £340 lighter! I thought it needed a new one anyway, it did come up with fuel rail error and they seem to think this could be related, anyway they’ll take for a test drive see if the faults reappear!

Came back all faults cleared and didn’t come back let’s hope it sorts it out, the lad seemed to think the low voltage could’ve been the issue
