Rusty Steel

For a just over 2 year old vehicle I was rather surprised at the state of the steel spare after my pothole incident...

Seems a lot more rust than I would expect?

I hope not to see it again for a good while but should I do something to protect it before I sling it back under the van? I don't really care what it looks but don't want it to be unusable.

Waxoyl? Hammerite? Grease? Just hope?

Id just get some hammerite silver (or any colour you want) and give it a blast over. Could always give it a very light sand first and get some rust treatment on it

Also now a tiny bit concerned about the van underside in general. I had, possibly naively, assumed that on the more "car like" models there might be a bit more underbody protection splashed about given the rather large uptick in list price...

I did mine with Lanoguard when I was underneath. Other (cheaper? Less well marketed?) sealing agents are available.
For reasons (miss order, ahem) I do have two litre tins of waxoyl but no sprayer.

That would protect, just wondering if I may regret should I need to get a waxy wheel out on a roadside in the future. But has the advantage of zero spend!
