Roof spoiler bonding ?

Might be a daft question but regarding installation
Do you key the surface prior to bonding or just bond both shiny surfaces together
It’ll never been seen under the spoiler anyway but just wondering prior to installing

Just wondering how well it takes on bonding two painted surfaces together
Also noticed it has to captive bolts each end but don’t recall seeing anything on van for these
It’s for a tailgate not barn door

I key up both parts, but on the spoiler I like to take it down to the plastic as sometimes the paint breaks adhesion from the spoiler. Use windscreen primer as it eats in and when sealing I make donut shapes in the middle to make a suction seal. Make sure you make you have plenty of rags and panel wipe.

Good advice,

May I ask how you line up and drill a hole in the barn door leaves for the single bolt fixing?

Looking at adding a OEM style spoiler myself to the bus soon.

I never have had to drill one as I find it does more damage than good in the long run with tin worm. As long as the prep is good and surface is clean it should never move.

They usually include a template for drilling but I didn't drill mine either. Just keyed, bonded and held down with tape and weights overnight.
