Recessed fridge in wall

I have perhaps failed to look before I leapt with this...

Has anyone got a recessed fridge setup so the units are flush?



I have bought an interior unit that requires a cut out into the wall of the van and I foolishly assumed I could buy a standard fridge. The fridge is in transit and now I've checked the cupboard it looks like a bit of bulkhead is going to clash with the 500mm depth of the fridge by approx 40mm



Assuming I'm gonna have to send the fridge back now

Not sure what’s behind mine but my fridge is basically flush. I think it depends on the cupboards though, what size bed have you got the cupboards to fit? A 112 rib should basically fit the fridge in flush although it does use the space in the side for ventilation. I think it might not be square at the back so could avoid this being an issue

Edit: sorry that door definitely wouldn’t fit though

It's a 112 Rib that I've got. I'm hoping it's not square at the back. JustKampers are closed til monday now so am stuck til then for infos.

Let this be a lesson to others, don't buy fridges in a rush whilst not wearing your glasses and getting the van cleaned...

I think I've messed up even more as the fridge door handle sticks out and I'd likely need it to be flat to get it behind the door. Ooof... this is excruciating. So glad I made this public

It can’t be set in flush or the door won’t open.
All fridges have manuals with the minimum clearances to allow convection heat transfer.
Make sure the van body behind the fridge is very well insulated or the convection will be coping with the ambient solar radiation not the fridge heat transfer.

The door will open if set flush (to the face of the cupboard, not flush to both side panel uprights) as there will be a 20mm gap hinge side to allow for the 'outswing' this is how flush units work I believe or how i have seen them work. 100% agree with you about insulation - not sure how I'm going to accomodate clearance at the back as well as lots of insulation and ventilation and also the sticky out handle thats gonna stop cupboard door closing... what a mess

Depends if you want to open the door 90 deg or 180 deg.
Most fridges need open 180 to get the shelves and freezer box out.

Just arranging to return it to just kampers at cost. Meh.

I've contacted transporterhq for some advice and am waiting to hear back before I buy one of theirs.

The lovely forum member I bought the interior from seems to recall the depth of his fridge was shorter depth fridge by dometic but I can't find one less than 480mm.

I'm thinkin perhaps I just take cupboard door off and hack the top off it to make a blank above fridge and have fridge sticking out 25mm... It'd clear the RIB when its out.

Have you thought about a top loading fridge? We have one in the new van and I love it. Never an issue with access no matter whether bed is set up or where seats are. You’d think it would be harder to fit stuff in but I think a lot of space gets wasted in a normal front loading fridge. Fridge is behind the panel next to the drawers in the pic, with a lift up part of the worktop to access it.

Be aware that the THQ fridge needs to sit proud of the face of the units for it to open.
It opens from both sides.
My fridge was upgraded to the THQ which is fantastic BTW but it has to sit out about 50mm because my unit is tight to both sides of the fridge.

Cripes... how do people have a fridge in a cupboard then...

I have through devious methods enquired with a converter and they apparently use the below in some instances. A depth of 400mm
