Pop Top Wind Noise

I had a trip in a friend's T6 at the weekend and was a bit shocked at the amount of wind noise coming from the pop top. Is this a common thing? Can it be avoided?
I was hoping to put a pop top on my own T6.1 at some point and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for which one to use to avoid excessive wind noise?

Do you know the make of your friend's pop top? The higher the roof profile, the more likely it is to generate wind noise.

You can also fit a deflector strip along the top of the windscreen which helps a lot.

Something not right as I have no wind noise on ours at all no matter what the speed is or even driving in strong winds. Be interested in your findings to the noise.

Having a bedboard plus an infill cover for the front will help, apparently (not possible with mine).

I can’t say I get wind noise from my SCA pop-top but it rattles like buggery on anything but smooth roads in spite of having had it adjusted a couple of times.

Yeah our skyline is pretty quiet, maybe slightly more noise than standard but I don't really notice it when driving

Not necessarily, deeper roofs have a proper spoiler and are generally insulated.
Reimo easi fit or SCA would be my only choice.

Deflectors and/or insulation can only mitigate the additional wind noise arising from having a pop top fitted - they can't negate it entirely. So, if noise is an important factor for you, it makes sense to consider a low-profile pop top, as these inherently introduce less drag and, therefore, less wind noise in the first place. That's not to say a low-profile pop top is a given, as their design entails different compromises which need to be considered carefully.

We have an Austop roof never had any issues with wind noise or anything else come to that! All I would say is that its a bit on the heavy side so the good lady can't pull it down!

Maybe in many cases but I’ve filled my cab roof space with layers of self adhesive foam. It’s a quiet as it was before I had a Reimo Easi-Fit installed.
The majority of low profile roofs I’ve seen are not great quality and some lack any meaningful wind deflection on the leading edge, just looks like a whole load of future headaches.

Mines an older Skyline poptop and had a bit of noise when we first bought it, making a nice hatch to cover the opening makes a massive difference, but the biggest difference was covering up the rain/wind channels, they are getting harder to find but you can get the old Caravelle roof trims which fit lovely, I've just stuck them in place to look OEM but it means the wind isnt chasing down the channels under the poptop.

Here is a pic with the poptop closed, obviously if you have a Reimo or SCA poptop you're entirely closed in so the wind wont effect it as much.

We had a Poptop brand roof in our T6, I believe they have rebranded to Streamline. It had the rubber type spoiler fitted and was very noisy at motorway speeds. Our T6.1 has a Reimo roof with the colour coded spoiler. You still get a little noise but it's significantly quieter.

Same as mine, you have an exceptionally good fit between the spoiler and roof.
If you put self adhesive foam above the cab head liner it will be even quieter.
