Pop top scissor hinge question?

Has anyone else had the nuts and bolts holding their pop top scissor hinges together come loose? We were having problems pulling the roof down as we kept getting gaps at the back sides.Turned out it was because the bolts in the hinges had worked loose, so my question is… has anyone replaced the M6 10mm nuts on the hinges with nylock nuts?

After losing a nylock nut on my Skyline scissors, I bought some of these.
The only issue I had was one of the bolts had worked loose, and I didn’t have the strength/ability to replace it. Fortunately we have a couple of camper converters nearby.

Thank you both, much appreciated. I’ll order up some nyloc nuts and get then swapped out. Will also dap a bit of thread lock on them as suggested too.
I take it the secret is not to nip them up too tight, as they have to allow hinge operation?!?

Yes.... They should have a nylon washer to allow smooth operation..

I noticed that my roof looked slightly 'off centre' when it was opened and on investigation found that a couple of nylock nuts had worked themselves slightly lose so I replaced the whole lot (stainless steel from a known firm on eBay). Since then, I go around them every now and then to check but not needed to do anything so far (I also keep the right size ratchet spanner handy in the van just in case....). There are also nylon washers / spacers present on mine.

Threadlock designed for metal generally degrades plastic, so using thread lock with a nyloc nut is not good practice and will actually make matters worse.

Thank you, will forego the threadlock then. The nuts on my hinges are not nyloc, so I guess replacing them with the nyloc nuts will stop them coming loose. Thanks for the info regarding the threadlock.

There are all steel locking nuts if you don't want to use nylock. Aerotight for example.
