Polo/Fabia buying advice

I found a 1 ltr Seat Ibiza 95ps with 46k on the clock. That sounds like a goer, insurance shouldn’t be too bad and by all accounts it’s slightly more fun to drive than the Fabia or polo

To be honest I've found it more fun driving a low powered car quickly. Our little Citigo is a hoot as you try to maintain speed through the bends.

The 1.0 polo 80 goes beyond low powered and firmly into the realms of dangerously tragic. I don't habe the vocabulary to emphasise how bad they are.

The 107 and 108 are low powered, but are light and sufficiently lively as a consequence. They have sufficient response to be useful and are fun to drive because good they reward good observation, anticipation and gear selection.

The Polo 80 is simply woeful. Spot a gap in traffic or an opportunity, tread down a gear and gun it and nothing happens. You simply cannot execute anything on the fly and are forced into either taking risks or meekly going with the flow and hoping somekne lets you out of that side turn every time. Thats the difference between low power and effectively no power.

Next time youre in a 107 or 108 take a 10mm spanner with you to remove one of the coil packs, then you'll have an idea what a dangerous proposition the overweight and underpowered Polo 80 is. They exist only to assist in bringing down VWs range average CO2 emissions, which is beneficial taxation wise in many markets for them as a manufacturer.

Agree with you totally on the Polo. Fortunately the Citigo even in the 60hp variant we have has a modicum of go due to its light weight. Such that I am able to make overtakes in it. Although overtaking seems to be frowned upon now 🙄

Our 60hp Polo is slow, but I've never considered it to be dangerous. It just has to be driven accordingly. I imagine it performs like a 2.5 tonne van with 100ish hp, but people on here with those seem quite happy with them.
