General Buying advice

Hiya, all Euro 6 are BMT, sometimes it's in the Ad, sometimes they leave it out
Ah...I see lol. Thanks mate, I've been staring at autotrader for so long comparing specs of this van and that van, when I saw the BMT bit, it thre me lol.

Cheers 😀

Think I've bought a van. Just need to go and have a test drive and start looking at insurance with Agreed Value (if that's possible). Any decent companies out there?

I'd recommend Howdens, for me the most competitive at £570.00 opposed to >£1k quoted by others. I used Alicia at the Evesham branch, she was great to deal with.

Try Adrian Flux too. They have been the best for me by far since I got the van. Agreed value too.
Thanks, I'll give Adrian Flux a call.

I called Howdens, they didn't fill with me confidence and ooh'd and ahh'd and said they don't do Agreed Value, but would take my details and refer to their Underwriters and get back to me.

My potential vehicle is just a T6.1 kombi, that i hope to put a day bed in only plus body mods and bigger wheels etc.

Just a quick question, to those with Agreed Value, are yoru vehicles all converted campers or campervans? Just wondering if Agreed Value only applies to campervans or converted to campervans... 🤔

Mines agreed value with Flux, and its a camper conversion. That said, the value I agreed was bang on market value anyway.

Mine is a converted panel van. The main point is to cover the gap between what the insurance company will pay out for a panel van and the actual value of it as a camper. AF used to charge £75 for agreed value which dropped to £15 last year. This year it was included with no need to send pics etc.

Flux will pay market value for a van as a camper, not just as a bare van, but they ask 101 questions about the spec, who converted it, etc, which is fair enough.

I think it depends on the underwriter as it’s changed a little each time I’ve renewed with them. Previous 2 policies I needed an add on by Trinity Insurance (iirc) to bridge the gap. This time the agreed camper value is included. I wasn’t particularly asked that many questions about the conversion either but have made sure to declare everything from splitter to solar panel!

I found a couple of other companies needed tons of info and wouldn’t insure unless you had a habitation cert and/or all the work was done by approved conversion companies. Caravan Guard was one I seem to remember.

Caravan guard is good. We have another car, my wife had 10+ NCB as well as me but I did not realise you need to swap named drivers between me and her otherwise as we did, named me on the car for x years others ie you lose the NCB she lost all her NCB. Caravan guard gave her back some NCB so cheaper so she is now a named driver on the VW and I'm a named driver on our other car

Try Adrian Flux too. They have been the best for me by far since I got the van. Agreed value too.

Adrian Flux's initial commercial quote was £1600 but 2nd quote on campervan/ day van conversion (bed only) was £676.34 inc £450 excess protection (reduces £650 excess to £150), £18 admin fee for Agreed value and S7 thatcham approved tracker. Then received email with another £149.99 for Agreed value policy with Trinity :(

No discount with T6 forum though...

Howdens is £750, 15K miles, agreed value and £500 compulsory excess.

Brentacre, wou;dn't do Agreed value on my day van :(

Thanks everyone for all the pointers, tips and advice, all has been gratefully received :)

I am going to look at the van tomorrow and go for a test drive, it's a 150ps T6.1, auto, is there anything I should look out for etc?

Also, should I get a vehcile check like AA or RAC check of the van etc. Its 1 owner from new, was leased and sub 1k miles and full VWSH and has 1 year VW manufacturer warranty remaining...

I'm not paying the balance yet, I've only paid a holding deposit via credit card.

Theres a couple of bits they have to do, they've told me it's just been serviced this week.

I've never driven a modern transporter, only a T2 1979 ha ha

So any tips, pointers etc when I test drive will be welcome,

Muchos gracios everyone :)

I would say nothing mechanically with that milage should be like brand new.
If was leased it could have a few bodywork issues but sure you will be able to spot them.
The drive will be a whole different experience to a T2🤣

On insurance - I am with Flux and they gave me a discount just by being part of a 'club'. This forum counts, as does Pistonheads.

Oh and right on que, I got my renewal though. 14% cheaper than last year.

So, insurance is a lot for a transporter then? Not bought a van yet. Still looking....what about road tax? Is that a lot?
