Pasties

I’ve noticed people having “Cornish pasties” sent to them from various
shops from Cornwall. I would like to state that Blackwells ( N. Devon)
Won best pasties of the year 2 years on the trot!!
The reason for this is that we put more meat in our pasties and not TURNIPS
Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of Cornish friends but don’t they go on
About their bloody pasties!
Give me a Dem pasty any day, half the price and twice as good
Can you tell I’ve got cabin fever, never thought I’d rant about pasties
Keep the faith

Ps I forgot to say, and here’s a question, would you good VW folks
Rather visit Devon or Cornwall?
Only reason I ask is a Cornish friend of mine reckons the only
reason people visit Devon, is to get to Cornwall. Really?
Thoughts please

We’ve been to Dartmouth loads - lovely place slightly out of season. Dittisham is great for crabbing.

We should have been in St Ives this week :(

Bideford’s finest ! Used to like pizza slices from there many many years ago !

Bizarre! Just literature finished a Philps pasty from Hayle. I had ten delivered last week.

I watched ‘inside the factory’ on making Cornish Pasties (admittedly Ginsters) and had to crack out a real pasty.

All this talk of pasties, we’ve just had to go on a bike ride to make an essential purchase from the co-op. SWMBO out of Prosecco too!!

its typical though, best spell of weather we've had for 6 months down here
and stuck at home!
Going to sit in the camper,on the drive and eat a pasty, thinking of better times to come
All the best every one

Torquay Devon ...all day .....(mums lives here !) what I hate is stuck on M5 cause another caravan has gone over, just because the tow car can do over 70 mph it don’t mean the caravan can !
As regards Pasties ...well as a poor second ( cause they keep well) Ginster,s....but I’ve found the more traditional pasties shops down the West Country sell the best....when hot and fresh ;)

My Nan (long departed) made the best pasties ever, and she was born and bred in Cornwall.
When we were visiting one time, I decided to find out how she made them, so I could make them myself at home.

The contents were easy - just weigh what she cut up, and make a note of it, and the associated seasonings.
When it came to the pastry, she seemed to just bung the ingredients in, and not weigh Them. She would then add smaller quantities of flour etc almost at random as she worked it by hand.

When I asked how she knew how much was in there, she said she didn’t have a clue, but she knew it was right when “it felt right”.

At that point I gave up, realising that I could never compare or compete with her years of experience, and would be relegated to buying them from shops forever.

Our Mums.....bless them all...could make something out of nothing....and on the conundrum of jam first or cream would say ..if it looks right your eat it !....:)

I quite like a Moore’s pasty from Exmouth. Admittedly a bit different to more ‘traditional’ ones but I did go through a stage of eating 3 a day some time back (I make my own lunch now)!

Was in Mortehoe / Woolacombe today for work, roll on things getting back to normal!

We visit Hope Cove on a regular basis.
We were meant to be heading there today for the weekend but obviously we will be spending this weekend at home. :(

Love both Devon and Cornwall, but have family & friends in Cornwall which makes for a cheap holiday.

Since reading this thread I’ve started looking in mail ordering some pasties, we have a good bakery close by but god knows what the put in them but they ain’t pasties!

I can recommend Philps in Hayle. They courier them up to you in an insulated box. They are amazing.

Gutted. Sorry.

I had a delivery from them just before they closed. I can do you a pasty but it’s gonna cost....

:think smile bounce:

With the lockdown I’m thinking I may have to go full Smokey and the Bandit but replace the Coors beer for pasties...
