Passengers seatbelt buckles coded on a t6.1 ??

It sounds like you are set up the same as me. If the van doesn't tell you to fasten the seatbelt for the passenger seat, then I dont think the airbag will deploy when needed. You can see what's plugged in under the seat and see where you are. Currently nothing is plugged in under my front passenger. And I want to rectify it
I’ve just checked. The wires under my passenger seat are all connected. image.webp

I have two connectors on my T6.1 seats, one black, one blue. Both have 2 pins - pretty sure that's the heated seat connector - do you have them?
Yes that’s right. It is the heated seats. So I’m thinking there can’t be an occupancy sensor on the passenger seat, so no belt reminder alarm. Airbag must just go off with the drivers in that case.

Cool. That may well be the case on certain specs of vans with the double front passenger seat. I have captain seats from factory and swapped to T6.1 seats as it was cheaper to get the swivels that way 😂

I found a pic of the occupancy plug, seems the T6.1 with captain seats (or particular spec?) needs this and the buckle switch activated to fire the airbag - assume it's dangerous to fire if the passenger isn't belted?

My wiring is tucked under the carpet for the occupancy and the seatbelt confirmation. The wiring on your van may also be the same. I cant see the van not having that wiring from the factory

My van had 2 captains sets from new, so it cant be due to having a double front seat it doesnt have the occupancy plug.

No, the wiring is not tucked under the carpet. The van has been this way since new.

Cool. I need to get my front seat removed and find out how to sort this properly I'm not happy not knowing if my passenger airbag will work or not

hmm how strange. I thought the twin sensor setup was due to the move to the MQB hybrid platform in the T6.1, guess it's a later enhancement.

Still it's no different to the T5.1, no sensors on my original passenger seat so the airbag would have to fire if the driver one triggered, though not sure how safe that is if the passenger isn't wearing their belt.

Yes, strange. I was going to suggest asking at a VW dealers, but Im not convinced they would know the answer.

Under my seat there is wiring for x2 occupancy pads. And x2 for seat belt confirmation so they seem to have gone to a lot of effort. I have also been reading about the airbags being different between single and double occupancy

SO, your van had a double passenger seat when new? Was it a panel van, Kombi, Caravelle?

Is it a step forward in safety ? Save ripping the dash if no passenger also so a cost saving for future repairs ?

Sorry to reopen an old thread, but hoping may be able to help.

I’ve a t6.1 shuttle with Passenger bench with airbag and occupancy sensors. Bought a t6.1 passenger captain with airbag to replace.

I’m a bit confused by the sheer amount of wiring under the bench, but from what I can see the bench also has wiring to the seatbelts which I assume is for the occupancy sensors (and doesn’t appear to have an equivalent on the captain). Im confident the airbag connectors match across the single and bench, but a bit concerned the new single lacks an occupancy sensor and will prevent airbag from firing hooked to my van.

Has anyone encountered similar?
