I dont think you need a Carista sub to use the vag dpf. You just need the dongle and the vag app will connect.

One thing to note with VCDS is that it's not compatible with Mac OS, so I have to keep an old knackered netbook to use it. Might be an issue if you only have a Macbook.

Obdeleven pro is the way forward. Keep that in your vans glovebox.
If you want something laptop based, vctool. It will do everything that Obdeleven pro can with the added bonus of being able to purchase stock/factory datasets from the extensive server database if you want to code a new module or a retrofit that did not come from factory.
