Any advice appreciated. T6.1

Was driving today and listening to the radio when suddenly the music was replaced with crackling from the speaker. I then smelt burning and now no sound at all?

I already had an existing problem where only the near side speakers were working and thought the drivers speaker had blown. I fitted the Alpine speaker and tweeter kit last week and again only the near side worked.

Any advice on what to check?

So aftermarket speakers.

What about the headunit?.

.....

In the speakers did you fit water gaurds?

Has it been raining before they stopped?

Standard head unit and was on standard speakers with the drivers speaker and tweeter not working. When I swopped them for the plug and play Alpine speakers I tested the non working speaker with a 9v battery and it was working.
I didnt know there were such things as speaker water guards to be honest and it had been raining this morning with the passenger side facing the rain and parked on a bit of a tilt.

should I check the door panels for water or is there a fuse / relay that could be checked /‘ replaced.

I thought having one side working was bad enough now nothing. Cant wait for the day I get some decent sound.

With the water gaurds....

They only needed for larger aftermarket speakers, as they protruding into the wet side of the door.

The OEM speaker stays in they dry section....so doesn't need them.

There is also an aftermarket kenwood sub under the drivers seat which was installed at the dealers I believe. I’ve previously traced the wiring and it has a wiring loom that connects to the quad lock but everything seemed in order.

Given your location,

Their Facebook page is down and website states having a restructure to trade only unfortunately. Nearest audio garage to me is Uplands in Cardiff 26 miles away which may be my only option.

In my experience with exhibition sound systems, first thing I’d be looking into would be the amp. You say you’re running the stock head unit, but there’s a sub - seems a bit more investigation is needed to see if there isn’t another amp somewhere that you don’t know about. Your door speakers are either being amplified by the head unit internal amp or an aftermarket amp.

Regardless, I would not plug lovely speakers like that into a system where there’s doubt over the integrity of the amp - one sure way to kill speakers is to plug them into a malfunctioning amp.

Thanks for the reply. It’s a factory internal amp just below the head unit. There’s a kenwood loom then plugged into the quad lock and runs to the kenwood sub under drivers seat.

I would suggest tat there should not be enough current in a standard automotive speaker circuit to create a smell of burning so I would be looking at the amp itself.

Thanks. I was wondering were any of the relays that have been routed under the cab carpet to accommodate the swivel seats linked to the audio system and something that could fail and smell. I’ll take the underneath of the dash off and have a good look.

So is this a model where the guts of the head unit is behind the glovebox and the screen alone is in the dash?
