No sound from Passenger side door speaker or A pillar.

I noticed yesterday that I have no sound coming from the passenger side speakers.

I have aftermarket Audison Voce speakers and an Audison SR5.600 amplifier. The speakers are all connected to their own output channel from the amp.

As its both door and a pillar speaker on the same side I am thinking its either the amplifier or the head unit. But I am not sure the easiest / best way to find out where the fault is.

Any suggestions please?

I'm sure its not a speaker issue. Both door and i pillar tweeter no sound.

Speaker died !!!


looks like I've fallen foul of not following my own advice. . .


the drivers speaker stopped working the other week.

the tweeter still worked fine so i knew the radio and amp were all good. . . ( as they are electrically connected together)


so it had to be the speaker or connection.


i finally had a chance to to take the door card off. . . .


this is what i found.




we see signs of water / moisture here splitting the MDF speaker rings . . .





not looking good here with the speaker bottom showuing evidence of water...

Thanks, I've got a water shield over the speaker, plus it wouldnt explain why the a pillar tweeter went off as well.

Have you got another cheap speaker you can connect directly to the amp?.......or easier still, change the speakers over on the amp outputs. That would check if the amp is ok

Thanks. I've just been out doing a bit more investigation.

If I put my ear right nest to the passenger door speaker I can just about hear it. The drivers side is drowning it out, even if I change the focus so the passenger side should be louder.

I will try the swap speakers over and worse case I have the OEM stuff in the loft.

Really strange. I disconnected all the speakers. Swapped them over. Both left channels very quiet for all speakers. All speakers fine on right channels.

Then I connected them all up and suddenly all seems ok. Will have to monitor.

Sounds like an issue with either the output from the headunit or input to the amp.

Looks like the van is saying pull the trigger on the audio upgrade we've been discussing over the last few months.

If its the head unit, I'm going to have to look at getting that swapped out first.

Easy. Turn the volume up and with a multi meter check you're getting volate the the input channels. Turn it up and down and the voltage should do the same

Will have a go at that if the speakers drop out again. I’m thinking no point whilst it’s all working b

The little grub screws on the amp output can cut through the cable on these amps, even using ferrules you cannot do them up to tight

I’ve just found the passenger door speaker has no sound and the tweeter in A pillar is very very quiet, all the speakers are the Alpine set, fitted professionally a couple of years ago, is it a case of taking off the door card and checking cables etc, van has the standard head unit on 2021

Probably sounds like a good place to start, another thing to check would be the balance/fade on the head unit if you haven't already.
Only mentioning the latter as the wife had the van a couple of weeks ago and when I next used it, the sound was imbalanced, inadvertently she somehow managed to fade the driver side speakers.

After you checked the balance settings are ok.. check the terminals on the speaker itself , as good chance moisture has corroded them

Yes checked the balance settings on head unit, all ok, so I’ll check the door speaker and terminals etc tomorrow if it’s a dry day

I recently had this , turned out to be corrosion on the door speaker connections as Absolut5 says .
