Distorted rear speakers

Hi all,

I'm trying to help a friend of mine whose rear speakers sound really distorted, you can hear music through them but it's really quiet with a lot of distortion - there's also a low hum when the radio is switched off.

He has the standard head unit but the speakers have been upgraded to Alpine all round and he has an Alpine sub under his seat. The headunit has been coded to include rear speakers (have checked this with obd11) but weirdly the fade option acts as if the rear speakers aren't enabled, i.e I can't slide the fader backwards. I've measure the ohms across the rear speakers and they seem fine (4 ohm), what is the best next step to triage this?

It feels like we should check the speaker wires feeding into the back off the headunit to make sure they aren't loose? He seemed a littler nervous when I suggested that so if there are any other things we can check first that would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I have enabled rear speakers in the past but the amp does not put enough loading on the headunit for it to see the rear speakers (so option is enabled as per VCDS but no rear slider).

I am not sure what the outcome was in the end as it wasn't my T6, I am sure there is info on the forum somewhere that could give you some pointers.

I have had no issues with direct driven rear speakers and the fader coded and worked, only issues experienced has been where amps are involved.

We use a Audison uss4 or similar on the wiring between head unit and amp to give the correct load so the fader will show. Some newer amps/processors have this now built in.
