New Transporter - first official pic

Quite a few motorhome manufacturers have chosen to use that transit front end with the wet belt engine too ...🤷‍♂️🤪
I suspect the manufacturers are relying on consumers’ ignorance. They’re probably working on the basis that by the time their customers have to take out a mortgage to pay to have their cambelts replaced or realise their motorhome’s trade-in value is next to nothing, they’ll be part of a Chinese-owned company building motorhomes on electric Maxus chassis.

It’s interesting to note that whenever any of the traditional VW campervan converters ha posted about their new 2025 new Transit/Transporter-based models on social media, they’ve elicited a surprisingly large number of references to Ford wet-belt issues. For any company that has built a business on the Hanover-made VW Transporter, you’d have to be concerned about whether you’ve made the best choice of base vehicle with the Transit platform I’d have thought.
But really, what choice do they have?

Trafic?
The (smaller) Stellantis vans?

With the arrival of the Ford-built Transporter though I think the traditional VW following and loyalty is now on the wane. Potential buyers of vans, campers and motorhomes will now face a more difficult decision regarding brand choice. Arguably, that will be driven more by their proximity to good local service and support than brand reputations.

To me it is the functionality, that is, it does what I need it to do! That is has AWD availability, though preferably permanent 4wheel drive Torsen/Ferguson non of this Haldex Rubbish but very unlikely, Decent Handling, Good Ground Clearance, good all round visibility, Performance, Reliability. If it is deficient in any of these areas then an availability of aftermarket parts to change characteristics or modify to my preferences. I would prefer a colour scheme that blends in to most country landscapes would be happy with camo or Greens, Khaki, Browns, Sand those sorts of things. It is a shame for me that Landrover or Mercedes do not do something like a van, Caravelle that is happier off road. Quite surprised the 2 mentioned do not have something like that on their books not just for here but World wide they surely would have a market. However LR products are not best known for reliability and these days fast fixes in the field are long gone and I am not wealthy enough to be putting mmi and Delmassive on my permanent payroll or even retainer. I do not care about who makes it or where it is made, China is probably best, cheaper better availability, better made. I do though care about home workforces so perhaps the Chinese should come over to Europe. I prefer diesel engines, they are at a panicle despite attempts to ruin them through political remit. Would eventually accept battery tech once it has improved with range and topping up in the field. I can not see the day anytime soon where E vehicles could go on v/long safari to and through Mongolia, China, Russia or through Africa India the Americas. I hope that E vehicles improve to the extent where people would naturally switch over without threat or forced by political abidance, price fixing ect.

I have very little interest in it being attractive or fashionable, looks should follow form for me. If the Ford Engines have been poor then so have VW engines too. I hope that what ever engine, in any vehicle is reliable and does well that issues such as wet belts or turbo blowouts electronic failures what ever, have been solved do not care a toss who makes any part so long as it does its job well. Collaborations are a thing of now and the near future at least, its a recession and changes are being forced upon us regardless, manufacturers cannot survive alone, costs too much money and investment. Usually if vehicles no longer does what is required or even do it well costumers go else where. So if a VW or Ford do not do it buy something else why suffer for brand loyalty, if they do not deliver! Dacia are likely to build a van eventually, perhaps their low prices and sensible builds will take off. Perhaps not as plush as Audi, BMW but the money saved might allow modifications to suit needs and tastes. If we do not like what we see buy something else or keep what we have why change if what we have is OK and better than something new that might not be.

We've heard it all before every time a new generation of Transporter appeared, yet people still ended up buying them.

Come on then spill the beans any good?
The only real good thing…..it saved me walking home …

start button hard to find on a black dash ( but this is a base model ) electric brake button needs to be near driver seat…but you get a foot rest …wing mirrors ( Split View ) are good..rear camera very clear but makes things look big…..infotech ok but you’d need to spend time reading manual …..general bells and whistles very car like…but if your a Ford owner I’d imagine it’s easy to follow…
So why buy a Transporter when the transit is cheaper……it’s makes the competition ( Chinese transit copy ) look a financial option ..the only real winners are fleet buyers
So would I buy one …NO
( it’s that old Marmite thing ) :)

It isn't. The base model Transporter is 4% cheaper than the Tranny, and comes with a 5 year warranty, servicing, and MOTs thrown in.

You have to get fairly high up the spec sheet before the Transporter overhauls the Tranny price wise, but then it arguably comes with more comprehensive kit at that level.

is the interior the same as the Ford??

From what I’ve read ( as not driven the real new transit van ) very similar with a few tweaks ….but from what I’ve seen on the road as comparison it’s 99% Ford ( ok may be 95% ) it’s still a shame the cost savings by sharing vehicle designs does not equate to savings to consumers

This photo says it all…..is it protected from the elements ? …would an arch liner tidy it up ? ..Its Just a Van…a utilitarian lump of metal made for a price that isn’t intended to last long…..

There are obvious signs that many a cost cutting saving have been made….this i believe is to offset all the fancy gizmos that the EU gods want the motor industry to fit as standard

This image is identical to both Transit and Transporter

Parts are engineered to fail. It’s reoccurring revenue for manufacturers.
