NC500

Commercial tyres (C rated) not SUV or low profile tyres.
Wheels inside the wheel arches as designed OEM.
Don’t follow the car in front too close and the stones won’t hit your vehicle.
also passing place etiquette you should be far enough apart from the car in front to take the previous passing place from the car in front if you encounter traffic coming the other way - not a lot of people seem to know this 1754053539997.webp

the big problem is congestion and people end up in two convoys heading in one direction trying to all pass each other in one passing place

Lets say you do 1500 miles round trip, would you worry about stone chips if you were doing 1500 miles over a two or three months riding around home?

Good point, I live in Devon, many lanes the width of one car and not many passing places.
A good 70% of the local population can’t reverse in these lanes.

Out of season Scotland’s single track roads are the best withe drivers having the very best etiquette. The passing places are not just to allow for vehicles passing in the opposite direction, they are also to allow vehicles that are caught by a faster travelling vehicle from behind to pass, the slower driver in front is intended to allow faster moving traffic to pass by pulling over into the passing place. When driving these roads in the holiday seasons admittedly extended now, one can easily see the non Scottish drivers often do not allow faster moving vehicles to pass. In many places are sign posts informing people of rule of the road! passing places are not camping stopping places for brew ups and an excuse for hanging about find somewhere else.

great point, applies on lots of roads where overtaking is not possible, people dont know they should pull over to let queues clear.

I'm doing the NC500 in 4 weeks and wondering about getting a bonnet bra. I know they damage your paint long term but will they help prevent stone chips. For the trip and then remove it. Been looking at them plastic protectors but reckon they would mark the paint straight away. Or is there another option I'm not thinking about .

Cheers
Get a screenwrap, that's what i did, 350 quid

Allowing people to pass from behind used to happen to some extent on welsh single lane roads though it has not been a common thing for many years. Catch a vehicle on a single lane road now and even though the caught vehicle may have pulled in to accommodate an oncoming vehicle they will adopt antics to prevent any from behind passing so the we get tail backs and some roads have few suitable passing places for multiple vehicles. Often the lead vehicle is driving quite slowly hence being caught by so many especially on longer roads.
