Issues found following deposit - DPF

but people rarely tamper with stuff if it's not causing some sort of problem.
From watching actual decent mechanics on YouTube that doesn’t always hold true. Seems some people’s dislike of having emissions control leads them to believe it can be the only option if something goes wrong that might be linked. Seen several vehicles now come into these garages with the client saying ‘last garage did x,y or z’ to the DPF/EGR system etc, the problem isn’t fixed, and they don’t know what else it can be’.

Not saying it can’t be the problem or doesn’t sometimes cause issues, especially when servicing is inadequate or the vehicle only sees short journeys, but people jump to that conclusion too quickly now.

Probably down to trying to ‘extract blood from a stone’, when the EGR and /or DPF has reached end of life many seem unwilling to renew it but happier to pay hourly workshop rates to do a bit of voodoo mechanics. Obviously many businesses are not going to turn work down no matter ridiculous the request.
There are others who consider clean air a bit Woke, I regularly drink with a mate who get his ‘facts’ from the Daily Mail, X and GB News, did you know that solar generated electricity voltage isn’t as effective as natural gas generated voltage, it causes electrical equipment failures!
Laugh a minute.

My other worry as a buyer would by that they've tried to be clever and save money over doing a proper repair, so what else might be fixed on the cheap and bodged, perhaps even dangerously?

Some folk seem pleased to buy a van with such bits removed, but there are just as many who wouldn't go within a mile of one.
