Mot fail

Spoke to transporter hq and they say the units are mot compliant and units are made for the leds

If that's the case, speak to the mot station and let them know. If they don't play ball, ask for an appeals form. If the station has doubts, I'm pretty sure they will issue a pass.

You got a link to the headlights in question??

Its the v3 ,waiting for service manager to get back sounds like they have thought the standard units have been upgraded with leds

You get LEDs or halogen bulbs fitted? If LEDs, can you actually see it's LEDs fitted without removing the covers??

You can't really tell by looking at the front of the units ,the dealer been back k on to me and says he thinks im right but going to check with the dvsa on Monday

DOH,....

Sorry, should have said.

I have the THQ LED H7/H4s bulbs fitted.

The van had normal halogens fitted, so I swapped them out.

Been through two main dealer MOT since..

So I suppose it depends on the testers point of view.... In fact they failed it at first sure to headlights level out.

Then apparently adjust ed the lights then passed it straight away?

And no, you can't see the bulbs when they are fitted.

The projector lens obscures them

Below is a copy and paste out of the mot manual. If you can't see it's fitted with LEDs, then it's a pass. If you can see the leds, they are correct in failing it. Not sure why they have to wait untill Monday to contact dvsa, or indeed why they need to.

Existing halogen headlamp units on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp for light source and lamp not compatible.

This does not refer to complete replacement headlamp units which may be constructed with HID or LED light sources.

If a complete headlamp unit has been replaced with a unit that was manufactured with HID or LED light sources, it must not be failed for ‘Light source and lamp not compatible’ but it must meet all other requirements detailed in section 4 of this manual specific to the type fitted at the time of test.

Yeah, I get the projector hides from the front, but can you see anything from the back when they are fitted? If not, then you got to pass the lights

No, well not without removing the rear bulb covers.. .

As the LEDs are just replacement H4, H7, so the connector is inside the light unit hidden with the back cover.

Pics..

Cool, not an issue then. I wasn't sure whether there was room to fit all the gubbins out of sight behind the covers

Also failed it on rear egr pipe split open ,which was replaced on warranty work 18months ago ,I've took the pipe off myself and nothing up with it looks brand new ,they kept pushing me to have it replaced at £290
