Tyre load rating question, new information. (Any MOT testers on here?)

I noticed that too, so evidently there are differences!! Even if they may all quote the higher load ratings.

@JoshB_ is yours a Sportline or maybe just a 17" chassis?

My T32 is a 16" chassis, maybe that has some bearing on the sizes listed?..
My sticker is exactly the same as @JoshB_ . Mine is a 16” chassis. Came with Clayton’s.

So mine is a T6.1 T32 DSG, Dec 2019, converted panel van.
These are the original stickers on the van when I got it last year. Note only 17" specified.
I'm currently running 255/45 R18 103Ys.

A variety of stickers then, but none showing less than 103 (with the exception of the M&S 102's).
Any more from a T28 or T30?

Here’s my T28:

102 tyres are absolutely fine as they more than cover the load required (T28 and 30). The 18” show 103 as that is what the XL versions are and the lowest that covers the load. Non-XL are 99 so too low. You can’t get 102s in 255/45R18. 17” will be similar. The others are all ‘C’ tyres (commercial) so have high load ratings to cover a range of commercial vehicles.

Here is a plate from a Cali:

I have Conti All Season 255/45R18 103Y on mine and they are about 1/3rd-1/2 worn after 10k miles. The guys comment about only getting 4k miles is rubbish - although possible if the van has been lowered and the rear tracking not adjusted! That destroys the rears.

As stated earlier, surely these tables are for the pressure info for the standard tyres only otherwise why would they have different weight limit codes for different tyre sizes

I think the different weight limit codes for different sizes are just for the tyres that VW out on the new vans.

Availability. Different sizes come in only certain load ratings. For example 255/45R18 only comes in 103. The non-XL version is 99 which is too low for a Transporter so not shown. You can’t get 102 etc.

But that doesn’t mean that if someone started making a 102 version you couldn’t use it because it wasn’t 103 it just means that (maybe) the pressure rating wouldn’t be valid for that tyre. The load rating is definitive and linked to the van loading, it doesn’t change with the tyre

Mines a boggo T6.1 panel van.

Here is my (T5.1) t28 sticker. Main difference for mine seems to be the wider 16” rim/tyre option.
Interesting, the load ratings on your sticker are a bit lower for some options. I didn't know VW did a 7Jx16 wheel as OEM. If they don't why put it on the sticker. If they do wonder what it is?

Yes, the load rating is definitive, anything greater than the highest load axle divided by 2 is fine. As demonstrated by the 102 winter tyre.

However, as there are no 255/45R18 other than 103 that meet the requirements of a Transporter that is all they can show on the sticker. There isn’t a 102 for them to test/calculate pressures for so they won’t show it. Similar to there currently isn’t a 207/43.5R17.5 101W for them to put on the sticker (numbers made up for exaggeration!!). They will only show what was available and suitable at the time of testing and production.
