MOT changes from 20th May 2018 (Draft doc)

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...lasses-3-4-5-and-7-from-20-may-2018-draft.pdf

Some changes in here that will be new. Headlight/Front fog lights, engine management light. Airbag light. DPF removal. Some diagrams about seatbelt fittings in there plus quite a bit more on various components. Useful document for reference if your thinking of modification prior to an MOT.
That’s a big document for a layman to read. Need someone with special talents to explain the important changes

Just scanning through it, SRS (Airbag, pre tensioners), stability control system and engine management lights failing to extinguish when the engine starts will result in failure.

HID bulbs in standard halogen headlights will fail.

Visibly dirty exhaust emissions, DPF obviously removed or exhaust excessively loud is a failure.

Removing seats that had airbags and replacing with ones that are minus airbags could fail if obvious to the tester. Or removal of other airbags so guess that's an issue for aftermarket steering wheels.

The speedo illumination requirement is interesting. Certainly on my van, illumination of the speedo extinguishes if position lights only is selected. (Would love there to be a VCDS fix for this)

Just some of things that stand out but looks like there's actually quite a bit.

The speedo illumination when selected the position lights is on a sensor. You'll notice when heading towards the sun/ brighter areas it'll lit up and when going through tunnels it'll dim.. I don't think its a issue because you still got the digital speedo..

Yees, apparently it dims as a reminder to switch your lights on. One of the reasons that people forget lights at night when its dark is iff all the instruments are lit up.
