Evening all.
I wonder if there are any avid marine fish keepers out there?
I have spent a few years with tropical fish, just a couple of small tanks around 30 and 60 litres but recently moved up in the world and bought a 425 litre marine system. I'm just starting up so have to cycle the new water but will be using bacteria with a couple of hardy fish, more than likely clown fish.

I did the same many years ago and ended up buying a 5x2x2 marine tank with sump. As I didn’t have my own R.O filter it was nightmare taking 4-6 25!ltr containers to my local fish shops almost every week.

I have two very expensive (well I class one as a necessity as our only vehicle!) hobbies - a Campervan and a Marine tank.

I had Tropical for about 15 years - always wanted Marine - glad I did but it's been a hard journey. My tank is 570 litres - but that includes a large sump of 150 litres. Started with Corals but now am Fish only - lost too may and too much money! Bonus of Fish only is you have a much wider choice.

Started like you - bacteria with 2 x Clowns. About 8 months in - added a Butterfly fish - hounded by a Tang - stressed it out which brought out Ich - wiped my whole tank tank out - was heartbreaking.

Anyway went fallow for 12 weeks - started again - about 8 months on again now and all good. Fully stocked and a harmonious tank.

It's not an easy hobby - lots of different algae, diseases - but Marine fish are ona different level. Whereabouts are you - I'm in Manchester so good stores to visit.

I'm in Portsmouth and my LFS is a choice of 3 Maidenhead Aquatics shops and a newish place called The Coral Centre which is helping me with all the equipment and set up.

I will inevitably have to get my own RO set up. I use it in the tropical tank (I only have the 60 litre now) so with the extra needed for the marine system it's going to get quite tiresome!
