LifePO and Victron Help

Afternoon all. Hoping someone can help.

I've bought a little lithium battery for the time being as I needed it in before Saturday to replace an old AGM.

Swapped everything over, then changed the charge profiles on the Votronic Split charger and the Victron Hook up smart charger.

But when the engine is running or when im on hook up it isn't going up to 14.7 to show its charging, it does move a bit, for example 13.3 to 13.6. The Victron smart charger is showing BULK with 15amp being put in, but battery not showing it.

The setup does have a victron Battery Protect, I'm wondering if that is doing anything to prevent overcharging, but the only mode i can see on it is "li-ion" for the disconnect and alarm settings.

Any ideas what else it could be ? Everything is working fine off the battery.

The battery won't show 14.2 volts until it's charged..

Until that point it will slowly creep up from 13.3 volt

Gas Cape charging the battery, it will move from bulk, to absorption, and then either time out or move to float or storage.

Remind me to restart the cycle to get the battery fully charged as it make time out after a couple of hours depending on the charge profile setting.

Oh really ? With other batteries when the engine is on or on hook up they’ve always show higher voltage on the apps to show they’re charging. Then obviously when you remove the charge it goes down to its normal voltage.

At the min it’s been on charge for a good few hours and doesn’t seem to exceed 13.6, I’ll leave it on this evening and see what happens.

A lithium battery is like a bucket with a big hole in it.

It will just munch up all the current you can throw it here.

Lithium batteries internal resistance is so low that the current just falls into the battery and you won't notice the voltage rise until the batteries above 90%.

Standard thing will lithium batteries.

So you need to slightly change your mindset versus SLA batteries and your AGM batteries that you're used to.

Ah Awesome thanks for the explanation Dell, fingers crossed all is good then. It's now approching 13.6 again from 13.1 so it certainly seems to be putting it in, just wasnt acting as I was expecting, like you said mindset change needed :)

All good thanks Dell, went from 13.7 to 14.6 in the space of an hour and has gone into absorption after sitting at the same level for a few hours. Obviously just needed a good initial first charge :)

Most lithiums are stored and shipped 50%.

And yes they made an initial full charge to 100%.

If you have a victron charger it may show you the amp hours that the battery is taken...

If you have 100 amp hour battery I'd expect it to take up to 50 amp hours on its initial charge.
