LED headlight differences between LHD & RHD

Hi, forum and t6 newbie, but long time transporter owner here️

Reading through other posts on the subject hasn't answered my question.

I'm going through registering a LHD t6 from Germany in the UK and It has oem led headlights.

I want to know what part makes them LHD/RHD. Is it the removable dipped led module/heatsink (part 7 on the diagram) or is it a not so easily removable part in the main unit(part 1)?
Or can either headlamp actually be coded to produce LHD/RHD light output?

I believe the LHD LED's are a complete flat beam pattern whilst UK LED's have the flick up on the left side. In travel mode they go flat.

So if a flat beam pattern is an MOT pass then you should be fine...

The pattern looks identical but opposite to RHD led headlights, i.e 3 flat lines each slightly higher than the next, which is also what others have found on both RHD and LHD when I've searched. That's why I want to know which parts are different.

Travel mode does not change the pattern on any of the t6 LEDs it just drops the beam height, whether LHD or RHD.

(part 7 on the diagram)
The part 7 is the same for both LHD and RHD

it seems that it's the only LHD or RHD "coded" part

Thanks. I'm going to remove one of the led modules from the main unit then and see what's in there then because if the modules are the same that only leaves the lense, I think.
Is it possible the lights could actually be the same but coded differently to create the step?

No, I don't think so
T6 is electirically quite old design - e.g. there are no datalines into the unit thus coding via CANbus definitely is not possible.

Then T6.1 is very different animal.

Well I came across a cheap brand new right hand side RHD headlight with a broken lense, so I've taken it apart and found out what makes the headlights LHD/RHD.

It's part 7, the led part that everyone including VW says is the same part fitted to both LHD and RHD headlights.
Even the headlight body is stamped saying the led (not the body) is handed, once you know what it means.
The led is stamped inside showing it's RHD and it's also stamped outside again showing it's for LHT(left hand traffic).
You can see the step in the base of the chrome base and a slight ramping up on the side.

So to make any led headlamp RHD LHT you need (X2) part 7 led/heatsink units with 11824 on them

And to make any led headlamp LHD RHT you need (X2) part 7 led/heatsink units with 11823 on them.

You also need part 9 covers to seal the lamp back up

Now how do I get the correct ones if they have the same VW part numbers for both?

I'm just now wondering, if there is only one shown part number in the parts catalogue then there's a chance any new ones ordered will not come sided??
It's only a removable plastic piece, to be honest I could probably remove it and replaced with a flat chromed plastic piece to make them true flat beam.

Travel mode just dips the lights down a little bit for driving on the other side of the road to where the vehicle is registered, it isn't an accepted permanent fix, but sufficient for holidaying etc, just like the little stick on deflectors are acceptable for the same use.

On the back of this, I looked into travel mode for my T-cross which has LED lights.
Apparently, working off the satnav, the vehicle will recognise the switch in road position and auto-adjust the lights....
Nice innovation
