Is this a sensor?

Probably a silly question but the black square at the bottom of the windscreen is it a sensor?

Looking to mount my starlink somewhere on the dash but don’t want to cover this if it’s a sensor

It’s listed on parts catalogues as a sun sensor but dash’s I have looked at it’s just blank cover over an empty square recess

Maybe it depends on region or model ??

What does a sun sensor do if I cover it can I test it to see if something stops working?

Can I just pop that cover off?

If you have AC climate control.

The solar sensor for the sun's intensity is the two black dots on the AC control panel, next to the dials.

So I'm not sure if you have non climate AC if they use a separate sensor in the location above?

I have the 2 black dots so it’s likely the windscreen one does nothing then?

Ok I thought I’d just give it a tug and like Pauly says there is just a hole underneath

And on that note that’s possibly a great way to run the power cable to the starlink
